Didn't realise how expensive it was to rent in Dublin 8. €4,200 a month and you're only allowed to stay there for less than 5 days a week - it's only available from 2pm on Sunday to 10am on Friday. The €4,200 doesn't include bills. And they rent it out as Air B&B from 3pm Friday to 11am Sunday 🤣🤣 Da actual fcuk!?

I would think they definitely want one person to take it on, but it is an obvious sub-let or group let.

There would be plenty of workers/students in the City Monday - Friday in the City who would come back Sunday evening and go home Friday and would be delighted with their own room in Dublin for around 800 a month.

Your edit does not specify it was a 5 bed house, so still reads a bit over dramatic and not reflecting the facts.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised at any house in Dublin, given the current house pricing situation.

Dublin 8 has been on the radar since the 90's.

Know someone who bought a house in 96/97 (cant think of the street but it was near Christ Church). They refurbed it and sold it just before the 2008 crash for crazy money. Enough to buy their next house mortgage free.

I'd love to live Portobello myself. Think its a great area.

Not all, but much of D8 isn't nice at all. But same with Stoneybatter. These are loved by the artsy types. Same with Shandon and Barrack Street in Cork.

Dublin 8 includes Dolphin's Barn, Inchicore, Islandbridge, Kilmainham, Merchants Quay, Portobello, South Circular Road, the Phoenix Park and the Liberties. 

I had to Google areas in D8, Portobello is the only so called desirable area there. I don't think any sane person would call Dolphin's Barn desirable.

No, Portobello is Dublin 8. Stretches down to meet Dublin 6. I have friends in Portobello and Harolds Cross Bridge and its a very short walk between the 2.

Think that is the challenge with Dublin - size wise it is not a huge area, so areas are very mixed.

Some areas in Dublin 8 are not great, but some are perfectly fine.

I dont think there is a postcode in Dublin that is not mixed.

I relied on Google to see what areas are included in D8, but I wouldn't be too keen on walking home on a dark evening in some of those areas. Now there's parts of my own home town I'd say the same about too.

I would say same applies to most towns/suburbs in Ireland.

I would have been terrified of Limerick, but people living there tell me there are some great areas there.

Local knowledge is everything.

Some of the renovated houses in Portobello are gorgeous and lots of rough areas are gradually being gentrified, but the prices are eye watering in those areas.

The owner of the house in the OP is a gouger though, no way would I rent a room that had strangers in over the weekend. You'd need to inspect it with an ultraviolet lamp before you touched anything.
