    Hi,

I’m looking for some advice. My parents in law don’t appear to ever have been jointly assessed which they probably should have. My father in law has worked PAYE all his life while my mother in law has worked as a housewife. My question is can we go back and claim they were jointly assessed for the last 4 years or will it only take effect for the next tax year?

    Thanks

If they are still single on the Revenue systems and are not notes as married then if you opt for joint assessment now, then it will go back to 2018. If they had notified revenue that they were married but opted for separate treatment then opting for joint assessment will only take place next year.
