Average mileage for Mrk 5 VW Golf?

I know this is like asking how long is a piece of string.

    I currently have a mrk 5 2008 VW Golf 1.4 petrol.

I've 252,000km on it. It's being in our family from about 60,000km.

Gearbox and clutch was gone at 100,000km. Was regularly serviced and had timing belt done at local mechanic. There was a few issues with locks and clocks over the years.

I've being told my mileage is getting high for a petrol car. I don't mind putting the odd thing into the car providing it doesn't become a money pit.(Gearbox, engine, etc)

Any idea in the average milage for them?

I have searched for similar models online.

10k miles was always a good guide, so at 14 years old that would be 140k miles or 225k km which is less than yours. With Covid a lot of cars would have been doing less over those 2 years so an exact figure hard to come by.

Yours sounds well maintained so it could be in better general condition than one with half the mileage and poorly maintained. I'd be of the opinion to drive yours in to the ground or when the next major job comes up like a gearbox, engine. Put money aside for a replacement car.

If you are happy to keep it then drive it into the ground

Thanks, I do plan on driving it into the ground.

I know the history of this car and I could end up buying an expensive lemon.

Your is about average to slightly above average mileage for a 2008 Golf. Makes no difference tho. If your happy with the car then keep it.

Better the devil you know is my thinking. Car is worth between 2k and 4k . If its passing the nct handy enough its a cheap years driving. Even if it costs a grand a year to keep it going , its still cheap motoring. Versus going up 10 years and 20k and losing a couple of grand every year in depreciation

Thats generally what I was thinking.

Just hoping to get another while out of it. Last few NCT's were fine.

My mum has a 2004 1.4 petrol Golf with about 340k KMs on it. My sister in law gave it to my mum a few years ago @ 320 k kms.

My sister in law used to put up 20-25K kms a year on the car, but when she had a 3 rd child they had to by a 7 seater and gave the golf to my mum.
