    Hello

Would anyone be able to give an estimated cost for replastering a ceiling? We have stippled ceilings throughout our new house and I'd like to get rid of them all but there are two that could probably be prioritised if it is a very expensive job. Also if anyone would have a recommendation for someone that does this please pm them to me. Thanks!

We asked this of a plasterer who was doing a different job at the time and as far as I remember he said €400 - €500 for our sitting room. This was almost 2 years ago. He also said it's a horrible job so might not be easy to find someone to do it.

That sounds like an I don't want this job quote!

I had my sitting room skimmed. All walls & ceiling & it cost €370. 2 guys & done in about 3 hours.

I pulled down the ceiling first & put up new plasterboard.

Had a bedroom done & if I remember right I paid ~450 which I thought was a bit much but was 1 guy & did it over 2 days. Again the ceiling had fresh plasterboard put up.

If you can you are probably better to fix new plasterboard to the ceiling & get that skimmed.

That wasn't his quote, he said straight out it's not something he'd, but that we would probably be charged that if we found someone to do it. But that was the whole job, removing the stipple too, not just the skim.

225 per day for a plasterer, that's good value, not sure why you thought it was expensive

If there's no covering or the room is empty and easily accessible it's not too bad, I'd go over the ceiling with new board as I just don't trust new skim over old artex as I've seen it plenty times over the years where it'll pull off and make the job twice as hard, my opinion only as there's plenty that will tell you it'll be fine just plastering over it

It's hard to put a figure on such a job but a 14x14 square foot ceiling with new board would cost 400 to 600 labour plus materials depending on where you are in the country and how you pay

It was based on other quotes & other work I've had done.

€80 more than I was charged for the sitting room. Sitting room is the bigger room & probably more difficult because of more corners.

I'm not complaining because he did a good enough job but it took 2 days cause that's how long he spent doing it, sitting room was done in 3 hours to pretty much the same standard. The bedroom probably should have been done in a day.

How did they do walls along with ceiling in 3 hours, was it on plasterboard , it generally takes 3 hours from you mix the skim till final trowel, no prep involved?? I wouldn't judge plasterer on speed, I'm one myself I rather do jobs correct then bomb through it like some the cowboys do and there plenty of them in our game that pay no heed to whether wall is preped right

Yeah onto plasterboard. Ceiling was new plasterboard, walls I had stripped wallpaper, & quite bad condition. I was surprised how quick they did it, they had no prep to do other than tape the ceiling. They arrived about 8am & were gone before 12. Thinking about it now I don't know how they did it so quick, I stuck my head in at one stage & there was the main guy seemed to be finishing the plaster on the ceiling & the other guy (not sure if he was an apprentice or not) loading the plaster up on the walls.

Don't know if they put thistle bond but given the time it took them I guess they couldn't have. Either way they did a good job & its holding up. I would have got them back but before they left I asked him to give me a quote for another room which I was still stripping the paper from, & it was way higher than other quotes.

Most Thistlebonds needs 24hrs dry out before plaster, I presume they applied pva, hopefully, no chance pricing against them guys, tend do opposites if i can rather than pulling corner trowel, it neater job,but then again they were prob working to price
