Close one...over white line

Rosses Point to Sligo road (Causeway road, tight corner but should not be over the white line)

Another very close call today, came within mm of hitting my mirror on my side of the road. Car reg 202 D 5158 (Reported to Garda as well - All on cash cam if I ever was hit).

Happens regularly but not often I catch a proof pic this good.

Miserable stretch of road. You'd see a lot of that though with people driving the higher crossovers, Can't see or judge distances or obstacles inside them.

Do you have a pic of the mirrors of your car and the other almost clipping?

I can’t quite understand your issue. From your picture, and I assume that’s the worst one, that car is not over the line. You are wasting the gardai time reporting a non incident. No contact, no damage, why bother even posting it here? Equally, that car may have footage of your car sitting on the white line.

the fact that you cannot see the white line under the rear tyre because it's obscured by the tyre, means the car is over the white line. is this junior infants?

and yes, this is utterly minor compared to a lot of nonsense you see on the road. but it just shows how far standards have fallen that people dismiss it as nothing.

You claimed that driving on the white line around a bend with oncoming traffic like in the OP is fine . I merely asked you what happens if the oncoming traffic also was driving on the white line. Or is it only one driver has to drive correctly in your view? But then, who gets to decide who gets to drive on the white line. Actually, if you can point out in the rules of the road which car can drive on the white line that would be great.

I say what i see, no law broken, road not fit for purpose. our regional roads were never upgraded. The OP decided to put the two numbers here which i do not agree with.

When they called the Garda to make a complaint they were asked their name, so if i am going to identify a party here that has in my view not broken any law. How can the OP be anonymous?

I must remember to tell you that, you need adapt to the situation when an SUV crosses into your lane and hits you head on in a small overlap collision (some of the worst as the force is concentrated to a single point, missing the crash structure of the car, and pushing the wheel into your legs).

You need to adapt to living in a wheelchair.

There needs to a zero tolerance approach to crossing white lines with oncoming traffic, with dashcam footage upload services like some UK police forces have.

Your completely off topic, i drive sometimes in UK and the roads i travel on are not like in the OP. Two SUV playing "chicken" on the road of OP be fatal.

Poor driving no doubt but half the truck drivers of the country could be charged with the same offence or at least that is my experience on these types of roads.

In the OP and the title it says "over the white line", which most people interpret as on the wrong side of the line.

Your interpretation is; on top of the line, which is obviously the case, but " Close one....on the white line" would have got a different reaction, if any.

A road as narrow as that is better with no white line.

This thread is a mess and I am closing. Also to people that keep reporting GDPR for the reg that's not how it works.
