On sale now.. this is a 3 year one but without battery replacement.

In saying that (thanks to boards bargains) I got loads of the old Tile 2020s with battery replacement and I have to replace the battery about twice a year. But I lose keys every week!

Range is 60m but I suspect walls will reduce that .

The range is a bit of an issue BUT if you lost the keys miles away it'll ping off of anyone else with a tile and give you a rough location which kind of reminds you if you were in a certain shop or football field. Then when you get there you can walk around and listen for the tune.

was the case with prior ones that were supposed to be "one-use" that if the user managed to change the battery that this could be detected in some way by the app (probably from the power disconnection during battery change) and the tracker wouldn't work afterwards (server-side enforced redundancy)

it's not a big story and never will be because they are clearly advertised and sold as 3 year devices upfront unlike apple laptops or phones, one-wheels etc etc

it's also a 20 euro device not a 1000 euro one so nobody is going to be marching on the streets

there is a more expensive version which is sold and advertised as having a replaceable battery

I'm convinced on the replaceable battery models it just is using a fixed timer to determine the battery wear. My evidence is solely based on that you've to manually reset the battery warning in the app after you change it. If that's the case I'd imagine whatever average use they come up with is swung massively down by the pound shop button batteries out there. It's annoying as you don't really want to take the risk of letting it run out given the nature of the item by ignoring the warning.
