I've 2 Connemara pony's here, and a member of cpbs, that gave me teir1 access but the two pony's only make up 160 a piece in payment with a further 75 if they have a foal yearly. As I said I work with a lad, who would not be a bull shitter he has poor ground think he may be in a hen harrier area and he is doing the raparian 2ha, but not in cooperation zone, he reckons he is pulling 7200 for minor changes and mostly stuff he would be doing anyways. I'm not sure and I'm not blaming the planner as maybe he would rather air on the side of caution but it's a tough one to swollow

    I'm 7300 for my actions.

I'd ask around, I thought the cooperation area was even higher. Maybe there are restrictions on your area.

There is 3k ring fenced for the cooperation zone on top of the 7.5k, but you can't pick any of them actions till next summer and no one knows yet what they are unfortunately

Will there be much work on managing the hedges.

In my own head I was thinking might be a pain in the hole planting but once the plants survive a single row of electric both sides and leave it to its own devices....plant any gaps

I'm assuming it's not that simple??

I don't have hedges but the little I know about them is they will have to be trimmed every year for the rest of your life and who ever inherites it after you there life too. That's my take on hedges

That bit doesn't bother me too much...most internal hedges in my place are let go as high as they want and when the wind takes them there's a nice bit of firewood.....for 40 years the maintenance has been minimal....I get a lad with a hedgecutter every year for the bits next road...and get some bits cut back if they are encroaching too much but tbh things are sort of at an equilibrium between stock and the hedges without much need for maintenance beyond tidying up if wind takes one

The maintenance I'd be worried about is the maintenance required by acres regs

What maintenance is there for acres. I'd have thought as little as possible form a wild life point of view

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,291 ✭✭✭amacca

That's what I'd hoped anyway......I don't know is the answer.... its what I was asking a couple of posts back.

Went on a hedge laying course in connection with REPS a few years back and i remember the expert from the Layers association saying that a well established hedge, properly layed, should only require maintenance once in a 3-5 year cycle around the farm. Most folk these days seem to think you need to go in heavy every year, but that actually damages the hedge long term and reduces its carbon, shelter and wildlife value.

Not able to choose Riparian zones if in CP area.Currently the Dept have around 60 possible measures for the ringfenced money in CP areas…..so hopefully there will be a few practical ones in there for you.

are your stone walls in good condition. If they are you can put in for stone wall maintenance

Ok..,. That's interesting, I wonder is there any links as to what these 60 might be.??? I honestly thought being in the CP zone was a great thing, little did I know it would be a hurdle. After a day of rooting and dragging I've passed the disappointment stage, I was not in any other schemes since taking over the farm in my own right, so any extra over what I was getting is a bonus.

Yes they are in good order, I've all the walls included that are suitable that's making up I think about 1200e that's covering about 11ha parcel of external( at half rate)and internal walls. The second parcel of land about 7ha is away from the home block and has no walls at all, it is fenced with concrete posts and sheep wire.

Planners haven’t been given a list of the possible measures yet but hopefully there will be something there to suit you.

Plan put in last night. Just short of 3.5k. I have a few acres near the house and that was in the geese and swan area so should automatically get in. This scheme kinda worked for me as I managed to squeeze payments on a few bits of poorer lads between extensively grazed grassland, a riparian zone and doing a few hedges that suit me. Had a fort as well.

Few things for lads to know. Watercourses have to be marked on a map either OS, EPA or watercourse Ireland and the zone have to be contiguous to them ( running along the lenght)

You will not get paid for boundary hedges ( laying or copicing) unless you own the land on both side ( internal hedge) or one that bounds a water course.

LESS no longer available unless you are below 100 kgsN/ HA.

Interesting ...so you gave to do the full length of the watercourse that's on your property? No exceptions? Eg: What if the watercourse goes into an area marked as farmyard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,450 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

No you do not have to do the full length but any riparian zones or intensive grassland next to a watercourse has to directly adjoining the body of the watercourse rather than the head of it.

Another little nugget next year's acres plans are for four years only all plans end December 2027

They must all end at the end of 2027. New CAP will start in 2028. If next years plans are 5 years plans the Department/ government will have to completely fund the final year. The department may pay a partial payment next year similar to a situation a number of years ago

That is my understanding of the way he explained it. I had asked if I waited until next year to apply and he said it would only be a four year contract and explained as above.

Does anyone know if all applicants will receive a payment in 2023 or is it strictly limited to the highest ranking 30,000 applicants?

My advisor told me that my plan qualifies as Tier 2 status and I can't afford not to get paid, now that GLAS is ceased

Just got invoice from planner and cost of initial plan is 800 + vat and then annual cost 600 + vat. Anyone else get this high a bill or what is average. Works out as 10% of money getting which added to other money that has to be spent leaves big hole in it. Can you switch planner for the remaining contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,439 ✭✭✭tanko

Advisors seem to be confident that all Tier 2 plans will be accepted, there’s going to be a lot of unhappy clients if they’re not.

Teagasc less than 35 HA is 450inc vat more than it 550. Not sure of there annual charge as I have no visits.

I think he is taking the p!ss.

Teagasc advisor was doing 4 calls the jast day and completing the plans that evening

I imagine you can switch planners. Looking at the figures. The only real thing the annual visit was for on ordinary plans was the the results based grassland. You would be nuts to take that option with those sort of annual costs

Its unlikely you will get all the extra 200/HA for the five years over extensively grazed grassland.

Its unlikely as well with the criteria that many would get the full 10HA. To give 600+ vat/year the first 100/HA would be go e on 7HA.

I think lads would want to learn when to say FO.

Because this was so rushed in a short timescale and averages are running lower than expected/projected I imagine all applicants will be accepted

Just got a text from Teagasc advisor to say it has been submitted - had nothing heard since I posted this last. Because I was in the co-op area all that had to be done was press submit for the moment. Really, really frustrating and I can't wait to go into them if they've the gall to send out any size of a large bill for it.

Yes, mine is 8 or 900, can't remember as one is for ACRES and the other is for OFS.

Say it felt like Deadline Day in the soccer for a lot of lads trying to get their applications submitted today
