Remember that poor girl who was abducted outside Enniskerry, Filipino I think. Someone saw her being dragged into the car and reported it. The Gardai did nothing until the following day.

Yes it has. Amongst ex Military. That's worrying.

To answer a couple of questions above:

Everyone who knew Mike Gaine including myself never called him anything else. That's a common thing in Irish families; - My own brother is Michael to me, my siblings and parents, but to everyone else he's Mike.

Mike didn't have high-up connections that I'm aware of, but his brother in law is an ordinary (and very decent) guard in Kenmare. Obviously this man hasn't been part of the investigation. He would however have been aware of the general state of the relationship between Mike and the Yank, and obviously, of any interactions between the Yank and local Gardai - being one himself. It's likely this info was passed on to investigating Gardai very early on which may explain how it was treated from almost the start.

It's clear now from the article about the hidden chainsaw that has been found that the investigators believe the body may have been dismembered on the slats inside the slatted shed meaning everything would fall down into the tank below.

An awful lot of potential cross contamination between human and animal DNA would surely cause issues for the search/cadaver dogs too.

That doesn't bear thinking about. It's an absolutely depraved individual that could do such a thing, and then walk around like they're normal. They need to meet justice asap, and then in the next life as well.
