Was looking at one of these the other day. Seems a good tractor. Has anyone got experience with them pulling a 20ft trailer load of cattle a distance?

I don't have any experience of them but classic tractor did a comparison between a 399 and a 5610 and the 5610 came out on top in all adpects despite only having a 3 cylinder engine versus the 6 cylinder engine in the 399.

The gas thing is that the 5610 would basically be the "bottom" end of the range now whereas the 399 would have been a "big" tractor.

Don't know about the 5610 but have seen a 4-cylinder from the same range which had no bother pulling a trailer with 15+ bales of silage on it.

(I was only making the observation that when the 399 was new, it would have been a tractor for a big fella. Whereas now the equivalent in HP would be looked over even by most stockmen...but I automatically think of a 399 as being a "big yoke")

The one I was in before had air seat and the cabs was on springs. It was like a car on the road. So no chiropractor needed. I don't know whether that was standard.

Have a 5610 here new since 2014,no problem with power at all, often pulled big loads of baled silage with it,drew 12 ton loads of beet and grain with it no problem

This is so true, see more and more stockmen with 110HP+ tractors with loaders and no implements to justify the size. Hurts my head seeing them attached to implements my 135 would drive, especially small haybobs.

The problem is most farmers only want/have 1 tractor to do everything. On the 5610 ( have never used 1- just looked at few ) are they not very light for 110hp. ( something like yourself have 3 older MF tractors - handy for haybob, concrete mixer etc. )

the 110HP+ I mentioned was more a general observation.

But yea, I'd love to upgrade to a fresher tractor myself, but hard to know what to replace the 390T with. I'm considering swapping the 390T and 698T for 1 fresher tractor, but no way I'm giving up on the 135, doesn't make sense burning diesel in a bigger tractor for the work it does. I'm doing some repairs on the 390T at the moment and I am borrowing the BIL's NH T6.140, its a lovely tractor but too big for most jobs I need a tractor for and I do my own silage making.

You're really trimming the fleet !!

I have 3 tractors here, one is 110hp and 2 around 70hp. Plenty times lately where the smaller ones are too small and I end up changing implements too often. There would be great comfort for me if one of the smaller tractors was actually 90 or 100hp. Just something to watch out for.

What jobs would you be using the 110hp tractor for that the 70 ones could not?

The 110hp 4wd gets used for most jobs now as it's more stable and more efficient than the 2wd tractors. Jobs include Slurry Spreading and agitating, post driving, 7 foot power box, mowing grass, 10 tonne trailer drawing stone, 1 tonne fertilizer spreader, drawing bales.
