Rep range / weight question

Before I ask a question if anyone is not aware I just noticed Mcsport have what looks like a very good sale on . I picked up a pair of 17.5 kex dumbbells for 65 , I had to collect . But lots on sale huge reductions advertised .

A question about dumbbells , I've 5 to 25kg hex dumbbells , rarely use the 25s except for single arm bent over row and flat bench press.

On the flat bench I do 1 max rep set and then 3 more max rep sets. I'm up to 20 now on my first set then 13/11/9 would be around my next 3 sets.

The plan really is to work to a 12/15 max rep set is it time to buy heavier dumbbells? Would you go for 27.5 or 30 or even heavier ? Im probably only going to ever use them for flat bench so part of me is thinking just go for 32 or 35 kg and start at 1 or 2 reps and work up , but then I'm also wondering would I even be able to get 32 or 35 into position to lift?

Anyone any insights? Thanks . I have barbell and 200kg of weights and I do barbell bench aswell , I do feel I get more mind muscle connection with dumbbells version .

    Thanks 👍

If you can do a legit set of 20 with a pair of 25s then to be honest you shouldn’t have a problem jumping up to the 30s. It sounds like 27.5s would be a bit of a waste.

Getting them into position shouldn’t be much harder, use your knees, watch some vids on this.

They are fully legit I'm doing a pause at bottom aswell try make that bit harder it's just a pain once you have to do 20 reps I'd rather go heavier and do 10 .

Yeah think I need to work on getting into position the first rep with 25s is always the hardest then I'm grand.

    Thanks

Do you do incline DB bench by the way? If you don’t, it would be an obvious sub for the flat DB bench. Even a low incline would prob make the 25s a good bit more challenging.

Yes I do incline bench but use 22.5kg and I think my max is about 18 reps .

On incline bench for some reason it aggravates my shoulder joint more than flat bench so id mostly do 4 sets of 10 instead of looking for a max rep attempt.

Think I'll buy 30's dumbbells should eventually be able to lift them .

    Thanks
