VF Gigabox / SIRO problem?

Apologies if this has been answered in another thread but I'm not network savvy enough to decipher other posts.

I currently have VF/SIRO 500mb connection. Everyday, at least 2 but up to 5/6 times per day, the signal will just drop out. It'll be off anywhere from 5 mins to 60+ mins. VF have replaced the Gigabox (I'm on my 4th one) and SIRO have replaced the ONT box (I'm on 2nd one). I have a mesh wifi (TP Deco) positioned after the Gigabox but thinking it must be something on my side, I've unplugged everything bar the Gigabox and still the connection drops out.

When I say the connection drops, it's not just wifi. The Gigabox internet light is flashing so wired or wireless won't work.

    • Am I unlucky enough to have received 4 lemon Gigaboxes and 2 dodgy ONT boxes or is there something else at play?
    • SIRO say the line in is fine and have tested it multiple times. My neighbours with SIRO don't have any issues.
    • Could something be causing interference? I have a EV charger nearby linked to ESB meter and SIRO comes through there.

Any advice would be great as VF have been nice but ultimately useless. Would getting a new modem solve the issue?

    Thanks a mil.

I'd certainly try getting a new router temporarily, but bear in mind that you might lose access to some of the non-Internet-only VF services (TV, Calls). But if it's happening every day you won't have long to wait with the alternative router to see if it remains an issue. It honestly sounds like an ONT and/or physical fiber connection to me.

You can rule out interference as the electrics won't interfere with the optical signal coming into the house. That's one of the benefits of fiber.

Are you using the same cable to connect the gigabox to the ONT, or have you replaced that as you swapped out the ONT/Gigaboxes. Might be worth trying an alternative network cable for the gigabox <-> ONT connection....

I don't have TV or calls service with them so might try another modem temporarily.

They replaced the ONT box too so it would be unlucky if I've had two lemon ONTs but I'll check it next time it goes down.

They've replaced the cable each time they supplied a new modem and I've tried replacing all them with my own cables too and still the same issue. Last time Siro came to the house they said it was my cable causing the issue. Switched out the cable and said "there, see, it's working". Of course it was working before and after they were here so that was super frustrating to deal with that idiot!

I found this elsewhere on boards:

Flashing LOS with PON light off means the received optical power is too low so likely a bad connection or break in the cable. Probably needs a technician visit.

Flashing LOS with PON light also flashing means the ONT is considered rogue by the OLT. This would need to be sorted out between your ISP and Siro.

    Found over here:

The next time an incident happens, check the ONT to see if the LOS LED is RED and the PON light is off or flashing ???

Hi, new here so sorry if this has already been asked.

I've just upgraded my Internet with SKY to Siro. Have great speed but download is less than 1mpb. Any idea why this could be happening. Its like as if it has slowed down gradually over the last few days. I'm not very Internet savey so would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks
