    None. Zero.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Same here.

I have been very haughtily informed that I've been added to one very recently though. 😁

There was a couple on mine from waaaay back but, I unblocked them as even if they were chatting utter BS? It was better not to silo myself in an echo chamber.

Debate and discussion should be an exchange of ideas and opinion. I've come to think that if I don't agree with someone? I'll listen/read what they have to say and see if it makes me reassess my own position. Rather than sticking my fingers in my ears and ignoring.

    Zero.

Because I'm over 10 years of age.

I'm sorry I can't edit the pole to include 0, I can only edit my post. Ye have more restraint than I do. I have 0 tolerance for bullshit. I get that what I consider bullshit isn't the same as others.

It's not about disagreeing - it's about not wanting to see people goad, sneer, troll, borderline bully... and get away with it. But I've only ever blocked one person on my last account, and it didn't really work because they were being quoted so much anyway, and it affected the flow of the thread.

Oops did I tell you that? I didn't mean to...

    Just kidding 🤣!

The Blocklist won't stop any of that. It will happen and even if you have someone undertaking those behaviours blocked?

If they are quoted you still see the post. The current boards "block list" falls down on quotes.

Not sure anymore since the site changed but it used to be 2/3 active accounts. Not because I wanted an echo chamber or not to have my views challenged, but just there was some people who just posted either constant rubbish, stuff I found incredibly distasteful, or openly admitted to posting in bad faith and this was a way of remembering who they were and saving me the time of reading their posts.

    Zero.

Most posters who are serially annoying eventually end up getting themselves banned anyway.

And it's a good general rule to completely avoid the current affairs forum.

I'm confused why is this thread full of empty posts.

Mine has about ten permanent residents.

There have been more, but they end up getting banned pretty quickly.

I don't regret blocking any of them.

Zero, I don't believe in blocking people on sites unless there's some serious issue such as death threats, etc.

Oh I took the question as black listing people IRL, not onlin

    There's a block list?

    None

There's even an ignored poster on this thread.

Ignore the 100 user limit, wait for an icon to show as 'Closed'. Remove off your ignore list. Add the next gob sh|te you want to ignore, by entering their name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,613 ✭✭✭BrianD3

I have one one blocked but I still end up manually clicking on his posts and getting angry so there isn't much point. I'm not sure that ignore lists work well on Internet forums particularly those using a flat/inline format.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,811 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

To work properly it would have to block posts with quotes of that blocked user.

People replying to troll baiters creates so much spam.

    None.

On a different forum years back, I blocked a few but you'd see them popping up in quotes or stirring conversation that I wouldn't be able to follow. It actually made it more disruptive.

The best thing to do is stop and breathe for a few secs before replying to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,811 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

I find it cleans up troll threads quite nicely.

none as far as im aware, lifes too short for such....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,503 ✭✭✭✭Mad_maxx

None ,I'd never block anyone, never give a seconds thought to anyone here once I log off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,796 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

I love that the option after "5-6" is "too many to count"

None. I could disagree with a poster numerous times and even find them irritating but then I can also be in solidarity with them over something else. There's also this:

    😛

I do understand why others would use an ignore list though. Words on a screen are so much more than just words on a screen.

I would be curious to know who has me on their ignore list 🤔 No surprises I'd imagine.

Blocking a troll removes their audience, thats what feeds them. It stops them derailing threads if more people do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,018 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

I guess, but it has to be very concerted: people blocking a known troll en masse. Does that ever happen?

Usually someone who doesn't have them on ignore ends up quoting them and, sure, you may as well be reading them yourself then anyway.

I find long term threads are either one of two things.

Either they're a good source of information/debate between people who aren't out to troll each other: you might get the odd troll walking in, but they don't tend to last long.

Or they're the dying embers of a discussion, surviving on the heat from a long running bickering match between a handful of posters.

Troll accounts tend to get banned pretty quick smart, so I don't see the necessity in blocking them. Just report the post and let the moderators do the rest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,811 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

They really don't get banned. Some have been at it for years.

Yep Flinty, there is a number of accounts still here since I was last registered in 2020, which just go on a rampage of wind-ups. What they all have in common though are the same political leanings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭BaywatchHQ

None as I don't read replies to my posts due to my posts being blackpilled incel related. You learn not to read replies on "normie" forums. I think it is important to spread the blackpill.

Someone from an incel forum I used to use was banned from 'Social Anxiety Support UK' for being incel. The moderator said "Incels aren't welcome here". Imagine banning someone for being a virgin. It is one thing banning for trolling but to actually use being Involuntary Celibate as a reason for the ban is ridiculous.

If you're not reading your post replies then I think what you actually need is a blog, a forum is for discussion - not saying your piece and running away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,242 ✭✭✭amacca

Zero....I try not to block anyone.

This is a debate forum, it's good to hear a broad range of opinions regardless of their degree of retardedness.

And if you are a troll then it's good to develop coping skills....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,925 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

The idea that trolls end up banned is pretty hilarious. These forums are polluted with posters posting in bad faith, the sad little bastards know exactly how to pretend their latest antagonistic opinion is "genuine" and so can troll away to their hearts content.

I don't mind differing opinions as long as they are honest, unfortunately the most prolific posters on here tend to be the least genuine.

Yup, made the mistake of getting into an argument with three of them on Current Affairs a few days ago. Their approach was nothing short of appalling. Shamelessly twisting what people were saying, not a care in the world. The only person who got banned was the person who stood up to them. Because he's not "woke" and they are.

Blocking people is a sign of weakness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,917 ✭✭✭corks finest

    None - I didn’t know we’d the option here

if I had I’d have 2 at least but now those who I don’t see eye to eye with I ignore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,965 ✭✭✭✭cj maxx

I just tend not to reply or quote them. Or if they started the thread , just don't post in it. Saying that , I miss a few 'trolls' who used to start inane but fun threads on here and other forums.
