Prescription Conflicts by Irish Doctors

I know the US has serious issues with conflicts of interest when it comes to prescribing certain medications; does such a problem exist in Ireland?

The reason I'm asking is - my GP had me on an oral antibiotic (By-Mycin) for a period of many months, perhaps even years during my teens to see if it would help my very mild acne. He brought it up when I went in for an entirely different complaint. I always wondered why 😕

Bymycin (doxycycline) is a very old (1967), long off patent drug. Claims of kickbacks for prescribing are pretty much always on new, expensive, patented drugs.

GPs in Ireland normally wouldn't prescribe or prescribe antibiotics for prolong period of time due to variety of side effects.

Bymycin usually prescribed for 3-6 month periods by GP's for acne.

Kick-backs for GP's and Consultants in Ireland pretty much non existent.

GPs are specifically trained to bring things up that are relevant to a patient’s healthcare, but that the patient mightn’t have thought about, or may be too embarrassed to bring up, etc.

As others have said, kick backs for prescribing drugs pretty much don’t exist here, and definitely not for doxycycline (Bymycin).
