Do some girls start to believe they're ACTUALLY as hot as their airbrushed/photo-shopped pictures?

You know that saying, "tell a lie long enough and one starts to believe it themselves".

Between Instagram, Facebook, Tinder and whatever other social media platforms are in full effect, this whole photoshop BS has become an epidemic, best I can tell.

I mean, cover of magazines or whatever, I get it. I'm not in favor of it but they're movie stars etc. You EXPECT them to get photoshopped.

But with social media now it's every gal with a camera phone and an online profile.

Worst part is, they genuinely don't seem to judge their own appearance on what they see in the mirror, but more so on whatever touching up and manipulation they can pull off on some virtual-reality falsehood.

Like this PT at my gym. I'm sorry but the woman is trash, plain and simple. And it's all in her attitude.

But she has her own webpage advertising her PT services (personal training), with these absolutely airbrushed-to-death pictures of herself all over it like, book her for a PT session and you'll get the full on pornstar-experience!

I see her almost every day and it's bizarre cause in person her behavior suggests an expectation to be treated like she's actually as hot as her make-believe online images.......

.......instead of the common looking impersonator that she is.

That being said, I've seen her clientele. Most/all of them are old enough to be her grandfather.

To them she's probably as hot a woman as they could dream of getting in arms-reach of. To them she probably IS as good as porn star material.

After all, you know what they say.......

When you're food deprived and starving, a crust of moldy old bread is like a fillet-steak.

    No. They think they're hotter.

Some girls believe that they are ugly instead. Is that better?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,380 ✭✭✭timmyntc

Plenty of people feel ugly because they compare themselves to overly filtered images taken by others - not realising its all fake.

If we could get rid of photoshop beauty standards entirely we'd all be better off - same goes for cosmetic surgeries where not medically necessary

    You need a blog

Not confined to 'girls' - woman I know who must be 60 now and every time I see her FB profile photo I just have to laugh. She looks younger in it than when I knew her in her 20s! No harm in it I guess, live and let live.

What is your obsession OP about how girls/women look?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 314 ✭✭Gamergurll

It's constant pressure on girls and women to look as beautiful as what they see in the media especially now with the like of Instagram, hell I felt pressure in my teens and that was just from magazines that I bought every so often, now I'm in my late 30s and still feel pressure but I feel for my two teenagers who are in this era of constant Internet and social media access and even their friends telling them that looking like Kim K is something they should aim for.

I tell them everyday they are beautiful but feeling that way is not just a click the fingers cure it's mentally exhausting and I hope my daughters don't hit that stage but I hear comments sometimes from my youngest about 'online beauty'. It's a very judgemental view you have OP for something a lot of women struggle with 😔

Oh great, another "Irish women are so ugly/uppity/vacuous/generally unsatisfactory" thread. Just what AH needs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭EOQRTL

The whole make up, eyebrows, fake tan, instagram industry that women and some men have been suckered into is laughable. 99% of them aren't fooling anyone and they nearly all look better without the mask on.

One of the women here in work is lovely looking and a couple of weeks ago she went to a wedding and was showing around photos to us. She looked absolutely awful like a yoke from a travellers wedding tbh and yet everyone told her to her face she looked great. I badly wanted to be honest and just tell the truth but hey you can't in today's society i'd probably be sacked for even suggesting it.

Do some boys believe it's acceptable to comment on women's appearance?

    Irish?

What is this "Irish" you speak of?

I don't remember characterizing any of the complainee's as being Irish.

@Sugar_Rush Do you ever get tired posting total nonsense

I was expecting pics when I clicked on this thread. Disappointed

This from the poster who apparently wears skin tight t-shirt and obsesses about his hair. 😂

At least you seem to have gotten over the sex worker fixation OP, and have downgraded slightly to women who look like porn stars. A few more reregs and you might even manage to start a normal thread.

    Acceptable to who ?

For example if a friend asked you do you find that girl/boy over there attractive , are you saying its not acceptable to answer ?

Is it not a part of being human to find other people attractive ? Its ok to speak about these things or do you want us all to pretend we find everyone attractive or nobody attractive ?

What is acceptable in your eyes ?

Do you seriously need it explained? Here are some quotes from this thread.

"the woman is trash, plain and simple"

"To them she probably IS as good as porn star material."

    "Lights out at fat-camp, a jelly-bean is fillet-steak."

"every time I see her FB profile photo I just have to laugh"

"She looked absolutely awful like a yoke from a travellers wedding"

and just for good measure, this one, explaining that it's ALL women , not just irish ones.

"I don't remember characterizing any of the complainee's as being Irish."

theres a whole lot of those misogynistic abusive threads at the moment. Frothing out the mouth like rabid dogs. Probably delusions from heatstroke.

    100%.

I know countless ladies that have a stunning natural beauty but insist on trowelling on make up and getting ridiculous hair do's for weddings,(at a cost of €100s) that adds nothing to their appearance.

They often look far better the next morning.

There's a conversation to be had here, but like nearly every thread on Boards today, it has to be taken over by name calling crap that stifles any conversation. What ever happened to ignoring things and getting on with it?

I hate fashion. I hate what it stands for. I hate the influence it has on the younger generation especially. I hate that we're all judged by the labels we wear and how much money we've spent on some rich persons child-labour made clothing or animal tested "beauty" products. I hate that the people who tell us what to wear are the ones who profit from us buying what they tell us to. I hate that people lap it up and give it so much attention. I hate that the current image of what a women should look like is still a sexualised barbie. I hate that this fashion is on young teenagers and even toddlers. It's a horrible, judgemental industry based on sales, sales, sales. If it disappeared tomorrow, the world would be a better place.

A girl I've known for over 20 years went from Barbie girl to natural beauty once she stopped putting on the makeup with a trowel. She was always naturally beautiful, but covered it up with layers of crap so she could look exactly like all the other barbies out there. She attracted all the wrong types of men as a result. Men prefer natural looking, only idiots prefer the barbie.

Oh no, I called them barbies, I must be misogynistic...

Oh hey, let's comment and dissect every aspects of women's appearance, constantly. In newspapers, on film, in music, photos, and comment on message boards about them. All The F-ING TIME.

Ugh, now they're self conscious about their appearance and use tools to hide it????

    How dID dAT Happen?

    Yeah lolwtf?

    This thread is side tracked.

It's purpose was to slate girls that use PHOTOSHOP on social media profiles.

    Nothing more or less.

    .......

My point was, they present fake imagery of themselves and then try and reap the acclaim for that in real life, like they're actually that hot and perfect looking

When in real life of course they look COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and more ugly.

Fat, ass bigger or skinnier, face uglier with distorted features, creases, lines, a smile that's not HALF AS FLATTERING.

An image of perfection that's a completely falsehood.

    BURN THE WITCH!! lol

    .......

    Make-up etc., that's different.

    It's cosmetic but still reality.

I'm talking about CYBER SPACE, social media, etc.

I consider all that fashion too, so same comment from me!

Do you carry a big bag of rose petals around with you so as to scatter a trail ahead of any female who comes along?

Do we all not strive for perfection?

I've been on Boards on and off for years and it gets tiresome seeing the crass language used about women. And that about men too (about their weight, height, skin etc) but it is mostly about women. My point is, how hard is it to make a point without being vulgar. They read like 14-year-olds trying to sound cool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,503 ✭✭✭✭Mad_maxx

Women aren't as precious and delicate as feminists or progressive males think they are

It's not about being women or not - there's just no need for the coarseness. Progressive males are often no friend to us.

You said it's not acceptable to comment on womens apperences,

I said of course it is, when done correctly

Then you list people being rude, there's a huge difference, People being rude /assholes is never acceptable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,282 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

One of the major problems with social media is men and women comparing themselves to other people be it looks, job, lifestyle etc. Anyone on social media can make it look like they live an amazing life but things are never that good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭notAMember

The very first of those comments I lifted is straight from the OP. It is a comment about a woman’s appearance. sure, call it rude if you like, it is that also.

And It continues throughout the thread.

Glad we agree it’s not acceptable.

After all, you know what they say.......

    Lights out at fat-camp, a jelly-bean is fillet-steak.

Never heard that expression before in my life, so I looked it up. It’s from some godawful American “comedy” **** show. Figures, with the way the OP goes on 🙄
