Alarm going off when not armed – how to disable faulty panic button

    A relative is currently isolating with covid in a house with an old scopetronic homeguard alarm. The alarm isn’t armed, but it went off when the front door slammed yesterday. We thought that had accidentally triggered the panic button, but it’s gone off twice since while no one was at the door. The alarm code said PA, which according to the manual means ‘personal attack’ and refers to a panic button, so the one by the front door does seem to be the source of the problem.

    As we think it’s unlikely we’ll be able to get someone out in the short term given the covid risk, we’re looking for a way to disable the panic button temporarily for the sanity of both the occupant and the neighbours. I’ve seen advice about opening up the panic button box and joining the wires together, but is that safe to do and will that solve the problem in the short term? Thanks.
