    Excellent summary.....

Reading it makes you think how pathetic that career path is....

It's more about how unstable and unreliable a career in media is. I mean, even Laura Woods has spoken about how, if she had to do it all again, she'd go into something else.

When Grainne and co started out, almost 30 years ago now, TV was the main source of entertainment. Even if you had a Games console, you needed a TV to connect it to. Radio was when you were travelling, but then you'd have had something like a Walkman, or a handheld gaming device like a Gameboy or whatever. The channels overseas were seen as being a major 'coup' for new talent getting hired, and made you seem 'more valuable'. So if you wanted to come back to RTE, TV3 or TG4, to name any Irish channel that was around when Grainne got started, you could often ask for bigger money.

Nowadays, they're competing with 'the channels', Youtube, TikTok, podcasts, Streaming and On-Demand services, Spotify, and that's before you even get to video gaming. Even your phone can play games. There's so many dang options. The BBC spoke about it a week or so ago, with regards to where young people now get their news. TV was trailing, in 5th place. Grainne didn't assess the landscape. And thus she's now in the wilderness.

I've met her twice in a business capacity, now I don't know her but I found her charming and not icy at all , nothing which stood out as insincere or unpleasant, my sister works in TV production and worked on Ireland's got talent, she had no complaints about her either

Again, excellent analysis....however can you explain how RTE think a 500k salary for Ryan Tubridy is justifiable when he wouldnt get half that anywhere else?
