Throbbing nerve after extraction

    Hi there,

I had an infected root canal on my back right molar and decided to extract a couple of weeks ago after consulting an endodontist. The infection was there a few weeks because I had Covid, which slowed me taking action quickly. After extraction I had some throbbing nerve pain, so went back to my dentist and she gave me some antibiotics to clear up any lingering infection (she said the healing looked good though). I took them, and developed one of the worst fevers I ever had: I was wrecked for the 5 days that I took them but I assumed this was the antibiotics fighting the infection or maybe the remnants of Covid. Now I've finished the course of antibiotics but the same twinges are back again. She wants me to take another course of different antibiotics but I'm still recovering from the last ones and wary that they'll have little effect. I should say that the twinges are not often and not particularly painful so should I just wait and see if it stops by itself or should I be cautious and take more antibiotics to kill off any lingering infection?

Also I have a partially erupted wisdom tooth behind the extracted rear molar and I'm wondering if this is causing problems with infection too. I keep rinsing with salt water, chewing with the other side of my mouth etc to keep the extraction site clean, but will the widsom tooth (which is entirely horizontal) be a potential source of ongoing infection?

    Thank you for advice.

Time to get a second opinion from a professional.Another dentist or a dental hygenist or an orthodontist
