Removing Grease Nipple

Someone here might be able to help me. I am trying to remove a grease nipple from my lawnmower. There is nowhere to put a wrench on it. Here is a couple of pictures.

Looks like it's a one that's tapped/ pressed in. Put the nut back onto the thread and lever off with a flat head screwdriver or a small cold chisel

I tried pulling it out and was afraid to put too much pressure on it. Just in case I broke something.

Use a vice grips. Squeeze it tight at the butt of the nipple and twist it off. Have you freed the ball bearing at the top of the nipple and seen if you can grease it after that.

Yes the ball is free. What is actually blocking the grease from being pumped into the grease nipple.

Is the nipple threaded?

Usually the nipple is threaded. And it should twist off. However it looks very rounded.

What usually blocks them is a bit of hard grease below the ball.

You have a better chance trying to twist out than trying to pull out. The twisting action might loosen it.

Even a cigarette lighter to heat it a little would help.

I have loosened the grease nipple with a vice grip. It will spin around but not coming out. I have put a blow lamp on it but afraid to heat too much. Still will not come out. Little bit of a lip on the bottom. I tried pulling out with a claw hammer. But no luck with that either.

If your determined to remove it use a slide hammer.

I have to grease it at some stage. Don't think a slide hammer will work. I have used a nail bar to get under it and still no movement.

I be reluctant to drill in case filings got down into the grease. Brute strength and ignorance try a small cold chisel to pop it out. Leave it very hard. If it lose it should pull out by brute force

Can't heat it too much as plastic parts on the bearing underneath the grease nipple.

If all is tried your going to have to drill out the existing grease nipple and drill and tap for a new one. Usually a BSP thread but check with new grease nipple to confirm.

I would be more inclined to cut it off with an angle grinder and see what I would do then have you tried taking the housing holding the nipple off. That looks like a bearing at the bottom with a treaded compression ring holding it in place. See if that will twist off

I put a 2mm drill bit in to it. It is taking grease now but it will have to be sorted at some stage.
