What is it with some girls and too much plastic surgery?

I wouldn't necessarily say it's an epidemic but really, what gives?

Not necessarily referring to the Kim Kardashian type cause yeah, lifestyles of the rich and famous, I suppose they have a certain level of impunity when it comes to that wacko behaviour.

I'm talking about your every day, high street shopping, mall walking, disco hopping, good-girl-gone-bad.

Just WAAAAAY OTT with the surgical enhancements.

Again, some surgical enhancements can work wonders where they're medically or aesthetically valid.

But someone who looks normal enough going in, comes out the other side looking like they had a botox party with the seven dwarves.

Maybe it's a new trend I haven't quite caught onto yet but, being conventional aside, any explicable reason for such behaviour?

The lips thing is very very odd. It's quite sad really.

Some chicks could do with it let’s be honest. Synthetic hair is another bugbear

  • It's called Body Dysmorphic Disorder. It's classified as a mental illness and is usually treated with anti-depressants and therapy.

Idk I haven't seen anything extreme in RL but I don't live in the city so maybe I miss it, I remember seeing a girl with mad lips, couldn't stop looking at her because they were just ridiculous. But botox, boob jobs and nose jobs are quite common. Think it's the fillers, lips and butt jobs that can rly be extreme.

Though kim k normalised curves and a bum which is great (before her surgeries), she, her family, influencers and filters have led to a rise in cosmetic surgery in others. The standards now are insane.

It's lead to body dysmorphia, eating disorders and low self esteem. It was hard enough looking and comparing yourself to models bk in my day in magazines, now the younger generation have social media and filters to compare themselves to, I'd hate to be young growing up around that.

    Bring em on!

The more fish lips, the more fleshed out curve and big boobies ,the merrier.

Lip reduction is a also thing now. I don’t know if a reverse procedure or what but liposuction anyone?..yea

Slavoj Zizek talks about something like this. He talks about coke being a drink that really demonstrates the fact that it serves no purpose and sells you a little dream about yourself. It doesn't taste really good, doesn't quench your thirst and you can't really get enough.

Likewise, the huge lips and fillers and fake boobs are much more about an image of attractiveness than actually attractive. Everyone knows that natura, full lips, are attractive on a woman. But nobody seriousy thinks the huge, obviously fake, lips are attractive. It's an allusion to attractiveness, robbed of the actual quality that makes full lips attractive. Same with obviously fake boobs and fillers and hair extensions.

With that said, there are probably loads of people who get a little bit of work done tastefully and you'd never know it was fake.

Worked with a girl who used to get the lips done every so often…

it looked ridiculous. On one occasion.. I dunno if it was an allergic reaction or an element of the procedure went wrong but the lips were super swelled to the point it was difficult understanding her talking. Looked like an absolute freak and sounded dreadful .

the manager got fed up during a meeting when about 5 times she had to be asked to repeat herself….and told her privately I believe that seeing as communication with others.. colleagues, contractors and clients was part of her job, if she came to work unable to fulfil those responsibilities it would become a disciplinary matter…

never got em done again, the weird thing was she was a good looking girl, with normal lips so there had to be some psychological issues at play….

    spend X to look worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,860 ✭✭✭Pissy Missy

I think sometimes there's greater pressures on good looking women, being told they're good looking and feeling like they have to constantly live up to it, feeling like they have to up the game etc

What once was normal is no longer normal. The normal is filling your body with chemicals and implants. Covering your skin with tattoos and thinking you're a different gender, or species or some other nonsense. The bee sting lips is just ridiculously common now. So unnatural and cringey.

    Like this?

    Or bigger?

I get some girls want to project the "sex doll" image but honestly, cases like this are pretty grim.

I actually saw a girl like that one day also and really I don't mean to sound mean but, I literally had to hold myself back from yelling something like,

"Hey!! Keep it in the circus!!".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,860 ✭✭✭Pissy Missy

Yep something like that, and don't get me started on the duck face pics 🙄

I actually had to google-image that.

This is what I'm having difficulty understanding.

Sex appeal is one thing but I look at a pic like that and can't help but think,

"Good Lord sweetie. Lip filler? Nah....... looks like you were trying to fellate a bee hive!".

I'm sorry but that, and "sexy" can not be used in the same sentence.

Plastico fantastico. I remember I met a guy off the dating site, he wanted to buy me fake boobs and long nails, we hit it off really well

Being a curious mind, I had to look into how they get it done.

"Collagen" can be used, but apparently it's less common.

Hyaluronic acid is conventionally the go to at the moment.

But apparently for long lasting results, some girls will actually transfer fat from another part of their body (typically their buttocks) into their lips.

    .......

To me that has got to be thee most bizarre method, if for no other reason than it literally means they're putting their ass on their face.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭Bob Harris

Whether you like your face or not the different parts of it are more or less in proportion with each other. So when you enhance one aspect it may look better as a standalone feature but look ridiculous in the overall context of your face and this is particularly true of lips. You'll get noticed but for all the wrong reasons.

I also like the lizard scale tattoos and the horn implants on the forehead. That’s a nice thoughtful gift to offer a girlfriend.

    Over compensation?

Like if a gal has a skinny ass or body, she might try and make up for it with freakish'ly huge breasts?

Or a gaunt skinny face, she'll go OTT with the lip filler?

Then of course being underweight like that may be caused some kind of affective disorder, which probably causes the excessive plastic surgeries also.

    /bro-science.

Though to be honest, I've seen too many girls that use deep wrist scares and dead eyes to convey their years of poor life decisions.

If they're going to mutilate themselves to facilitate emotional "depolarization", or that's the only way they can find to emotionally express themselves.... ?

I guess fillers and surgery is as good a way as any.

    .......

And plastering themselves with gaudy tattoo's.

    .....

    Good a way as any?

    🤷‍♀️

The lips particularly look ridiculous. They are purely made for 2D pictures on Instagram. When you see them in real life they are ridiculous.

A bigger issue is blackfishing. Women are trying to look racially ambiguous our even black.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,382 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Pretty much the same as anything fashion, completely un-needed, promoted by those who gain from it, and makes women look way worse. Age with grace ladies. I do think less of someone if they go to such lengths to be part of the stereotypical look. I also think less of men who wear skinny jeans though.

I find it quite useful. This way you don’t even have to speak to them to identify their insecurities.

I'd have asked him for the cash and tell him you have your own surgeon!!!.....then disappear off on holiday with your ill gotten gains.

That would have been a great idea in theory, obv stopped talking to him aftr trying to turn me into a sex doll

Didn't realise that was a big thing, on an unrelated note or perhaps somewhat related

Early 2000s, girl in work used to come in to work as brown as whatever a stereotypically really brown thing is..........white girl, she was literally peeling from over use of a sunbed, large flakes of skin peeling off a brown base that looked like it had been gotten to that level by commitment to a punishing schedule of lying under UV lamps......it looked awful, she was obviously suffering from some sort of delusion/psychological issue..........................I felt sorry for her tbh.

The plastic surgeons seem to get off scot-free in all this chat.

They should be struck off for some of those procedures they do.

Probably a wiser if less entertaining course of action than my suggestion in fairness.

    Instagram?

    Don't get me started.

Plastic enhancements are one thing but photoshop is a whole other circus.

This one skinny meth fiend looking "fitness model" that showed up on my feed, her catch line is,

"My body is my temple, and it should be yours too".

    And I'm thinking,

"you absolute bean, look like you've never had a decent meal, let alone even been to a gym.

And your face is so gaunt looks like your cheek bones are going to pop clean through your skin.........

....... how you going to preach to someone else about their physical well being??"

Conceals it all with photo-shop though of course.

I know cause I've actually seen her IRL.

Absolute train wreck, clearly uses filler to cover up her malnutrition. Chases grand-dads three times her age and posts instagram pictures like she hangs out with billionaires all day (I guess they don't care about how photo-shopped her online pics are, they're just glad to be there).

    Pathetic.

My SIL is a beautician and is big into all the stuff. Her eyebrows like like they were put on with markers. Her clients love the look so she is sort of an advertisement for services. Her lips are OK now but at one point they were massive and her family just told her she was going way overboard. She seemed to realise but her husband liked it and various other trashy looks she had. He used to be a body builder and stripper. He did steroids for a long time and uses tanning pills still. He looks so weird but thinks he looks great. His eyelids and ears are the exact same colour as the rest of his face. Doesn't sound that crazy but it is really odd looking and it takes a little while to figure out what is off.

Anyway it is all about insecurities and then who you socialise with. All their friends are similar and obsessed with labels and mange to look like trash. They spend a fortune on this stuff and live in debt to fund it.

I understand some it like maybe having braces, laser eye surgery or even rhinoplasty and you're self conscious about these things but the bee sting lips and tattooed on eyebrows just seem to make people look worse. Some of the people that get those things seem oblivious that.

The thing about those lip fillers is, I wouldn't even notice there was anything "wrong" if they were left as they were, but would immediately notice as soon as they are worked on. Getting a procedure done when you have low esteem which actually makes people gawk at you more is surely counter-intuitive no?

Like I have never seen a woman without any procedure done and thought 'wow. She is pretty. Shame about the lips'. But I almost always see a woman who has got lip fillers done and think: 'wow. She is pretty. Shame about the lips'.

Some people express themselves via over the top cosmetics, some via tattoos and some people even express themselves via creating inane judgmental message board threads. Horses for courses.

It's all very well for TV adverts to use women who are morbidly obese, or scarred or who have some kind of skin disease to try to make it look like they're promoting ordinary beauty, but they aren't. The brand can pay millions for one of the Williams sisters to advertise a razor or they can pay a tiny fraction of that to a random fat girl to shave her bikini line and make the company look like they're supporting ordinary women, but they aren't.

There's a generation that have grown up watching celebrities promoting plastic surgery and glamorous looks that just aren't realistic or attainable for most people. If your a fella having a one night stand with a girl you could find your sheets are orange from the fake tan and some of her fake eyelashes are stuck to your pillows. 😂 I'd say a lot of them are having the surgeries done cheaply abroad and it shows. Some probably get addicted to it. I'd always said I'd never have cosmetic surgery but now I'd happily have stuff lifted sucked and tucked. I'd never have cosmetic surgery on my face though.

The eyebrows can be something else. Big black marker drawn over the eyes. How in the name of god did anyone think that looked good and manage to convice hordes of others of the same

Ah and the sunbeds, of course.

To be honest I think an element of excessive sunbed use.... I mean for anyone that's been to a tanning parlor, you will know most of them are pretty damn trashy.

Don't know what it is or why but certainly a sizable percentage of the women who run or work in the places I'd imagine could probably make successful "Madams" in the brothels.

They typically have that "I'm a bad girl, trashy and proud" thing going on.

    I guess like attracts like.

Catch a fair amount of that on instagam reels also; "oh here's one of me naked in a sunbed, and another one of me getting a sunbed cause my ludicrously overdone tan is soooo dayum sexy".

Yeah dear, between your offensively over baked tan, your hematoma lips, plastic chest and obvious eating disorder, you are just adorable.

    lol

    YOU ABSOLUTE BOMB SCARE!!

Really though? Who really gives a fck what anyone else looks like? They think its great, best of luck to them. They are not asking you to pay for their cosmetics.

You seem a bit obsessed and creepy. Very judgemental.

And the GIGANTIC stretch to say that anyone running a beauticians or tanning parlour or working there would fit in well in a brothel. Like WT absolute F?

At least the look ties into the sex worker fascination your previous account had.

You obviously spend a lot of time scoping out tanning salons and their staff, maybe you should volunteer on Saturdays?

I'm not sure it's actually regulated here so botch jobs are inevitable.

    Sheep just following sheep

    Brainwashed by media

Irish people are absolutely terrified to do anything that goes against the grain

    Fear of being left behind

An average natural looking girl will always look better than a Kardashian/Jersey shore thing

Pity because irish girls are actually beautiful when they just be themselves

You think plastic surgeons aren't licensed in Ireland?

    lol

Botch jobs tend to come from Balkan regions like Turkey who perform extensive cosmetic procedures for comparatively low cost, little possibility of recourse should the surgeon mess up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,909 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

Ah let them off if it makes them happy, all those fillers and stuff might not be the best to be pumping into the body but its their own business.

It seems to be getting more common for men to be getting plastic surgery as well.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 18,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭Leg End Reject

Plastic surgeons are, but they deal with burn injuries, reconstructive surgery and disfigurement.

Lip fillers, medically unnecessary breast surgery etc. are cosmetic surgery, not plastic.
