I find it so bizarre that a company which has been built around children for generations is actively supporting abortion. I mean...WTF! It's a Turkeys voting for Christmas situation.

This is not a for, or against abortion thread. But how on earth can a company like Disney seriously be taking this position when you consider its audience? They don't even call it abortion, preferring to use "family planning" or "reproductive care" for obvious reasons.

The Walt Disney Company has said it will cover travel benefits for employees seeking family planning or reproductive care following the US Supreme Court's ruling overturning the Roe v. Wade law that protected a woman's right to abortion.

The company told employees that it recognizes the impact of the abortion ruling, but it remains committed to providing comprehensive access to quality healthcare – including family planning and reproductive care, according to a Disney spokesman.

The company's benefits will cover the cost of those employees who need to travel to another location to access care.

Disney employs about 80,000 people at Walt Disney World resort in Florida, where Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill prohibiting abortions after 15 weeks of gestation.

Disney is for children living in happy, healthy environments, not being dumped in their toilets. That story rocked Florida for days, and I was there to witness it unfold in the local press.

Disney cares about money, and the simple fact is that the majority are pro-choice, and going against them, they would lose more money, than going against the far right minority. They do not give a single crap about the actual issue, they have come to the simple and obvious conclusion that they will lose money supporting a far right agenda, being pushed by a minority of white supremacists religious extremists.

Disney aren't alone. Other companies that have already said they'll cover expenses include Sony, Amazon, Warner Brothers, Dick's Sporting Goods, Netflix, Starbucks, Tesla, Comcast, Citibank , Apple, Paramount. Probably many more will follow suit.

The difference would be the intended audiences these companies primarily cater to. Notice how they specifically avoided using the word "abortion". Though it's funny that Dicks Sporting Goods is on the band wagon.

Also while it's seemingly good of disney to support their folks, the reality is a womans medical privacy has been passed off to her employer. This feels like the ball and chain of republicans expecting healthcare to be directly tied to your employer. Next Chapek and the other CEOs are going to get to have talks about employees who take advantage of the benefit more than once, or too often, or who do so once at all.

In principle I'd be opposed to abortion.

But if a woman has an ectopic pregnancy, or sepsis, or cetain mental health issues, or the pregnancy is the result of rape, there needs to be a safe, legal option.

Given those realities, employrers do need to support reproductive healthcare, just like other healthcare.
