So i see its free to bring a bag that size so long as its in the hold (travelling to France)

Do they give much of a flute if its 1 or 2kg over in your experience?

It's weighed at the bag drop, don't know what happens if it's over weight

Flew with them a few days ago, if you are checking in the 10kg its weighed. Wasn't weighed if you paid to carry it on the plane (or wasn't on my flight)

I think its a trick to get people to pay €6 to haver the option of carrying the bag on the plane. i think if you want over load better pay the few €€

I was asked - randomly - a couple of years ago, at Dublin Airport, to weigh my bag that I was carrying on board to show that it was within the weight limit. Never happened before nor since.

In this case, theyve already rode you for a few euro.

I recently had a phonewatch salesman call at my door. I simply told him 'i'll be robbed either way', same principle.

Note that the rule is only 7Kg on regional flights

If you use the bag drop machines they weigh the bag. Then you move it to the conveyor belt and it again weighs the bag. You should allow an extra hour at Dublin airport if checking a bag into the hold, and typically 3 more hours to get through security. Check in online before hand too.

There is no way around bag weight if it's going into the hold and the actual weight measured may differ slightly compared to home weighing scales so try be a bit under. I recommend weighing bag filled at home well in advance in case you need to change anything such as bag size, overall weight or swap things or buy new things such as travel toothpaste or travel shower get etc. I got stuck recently and I had to not being things to airport I wanted ony trip. I also slipped up and paid for higher weight when lower weight would have been ok.

If you pay for hold you cannot bring it to the gate, you must check it in

To answer the question in the thread title, every bag that goes into the hold in every plane everywhere gets weighed. The flight crew need to know the weight of the aircraft for fuel calculation and to work out the take-off speed. When you book a flight, the reason they ask for your prefix (Mr/Mrs/Ms) is to establish your gender so they can use an average weight for you. And they use an average weight for carry-on bags, probably more for passengers who have not checked in a bag and less for those who do.

If you're booked as a member of a party, a lot of airlines allow weight aggregation i.e. the party as a whole will have an allowance so (within reason) some people can be over and some under the individual allowance. What you do is get the people with lighter bags to check-in first and the later people can then check in heavier bags without getting pulled up and asked to pay for being overweight.

If taking a bag in the cabin, they can be strict enough on the dimensions of the bag.

With 10kg in the hold, does anyone know if it still has to have cabin dimensions or the only rule is less than 10kg?
