Buying fuel in bulk for Winter ahead

I'm trying to think ahead in terms of fuel for next Winter even though it's 22 degrees outside today :)

I'm guessing something like 50 bags of coal for an average house for the Winter ??

Anyone have any recommendations in terms of vendors selling (and delivering) this quantity to domestic users at a reasonable price ? Presumably this is signficantly cheaper than getting the odd two or three bags at the local petrol station as you need it ?

I'm in the Cork area (within 25 mins of the city)

Try those, delivery included in the price.

I'm checking out pellet boiler stoves at the weekend, need to upgrade the heating badly, this looks like a much better alternative. Pellets are cheaper than coal too.

If you have a stove that's 80% efficient it works out between 9 and 11 cent per Kwh for coal.

70% efficient stove between 11.30 and 12.09 cent per Kwh for coal.

Open fire around 40-42 cent per Kwh might as well have an electric oil filled radiator at that rate a lot less hassle too.

Pellets at 90% efficiency stove 8 cent per Kwh,

Below is a handy way to get an idea of which fuel is cheaper.

International coal prices have soared and the dollar has got very strong.

Last July coal was trading at $130 dollar was $1.20

Today coal is trading at $350, dollar is at $1.05.

That's for buying thousands of tons from a mine! So adding transportation, bagging, taxes, distribution and retail, you are probably at €800.

If you have a b&q nearby they still have 20kg bags for €13.50

Join their club and they usually send a 10% off voucher

That's the cheapest around as it's still last year's prices

Sort of it's ok for 'local' use.

Turf is awful shite though to burn the smoke absolutely kills mu sinus lol.

Not very efficient either think it has half the energy of coal ? might not work out very cheap but cheap if you can get it from the bog yourself maybe.
