Nah. There's only one spot left really. Leicester and Southampton are as good as gone imo, they've not got any fight left in them. Chelsea are 12 points clear with 7 games for most (bar West Ham) left to play. They won't go down but they'll be entertainingly awful for the remainder of the season. They forgot Lampard hasn't a clue how to organise a defence and they've no striker to score their way out of it bar a washed up Aubameyang😂

Imagine being so crap that you get sacked from your interim manager job to be replaced by another interim manager.

people were talking about the Lampard appointment like it was a free hit for him - get Chelsea up the table and his reputation is restored, and if he doesn't then it's not his fault the club is in chaos. But what he is actually proving is that there is no team so bad that he can't make them worse!

Yeah Gerrards cluelessness has somewhat gone under the radar but the improvement in Villa since he left has been insane. Similar to Palace under Hodgson compared to them under Vieira.

Wasn’t Vieira talked about on here 12 months ago as a manager of the season contender? He’d transformed a Palace side that were stagnating, playing hoofball under Roy. And this time last year Roy was at Watford and taking them down! (Of course they were doomed before he ever arrived but still…)

Amazing how the landscape changes in 12 months.

Palace sacked him after a horrific run of games were no points were expected yet they gained 5.

    Screenshot_2023-04-15-22-58-48-95_3aea4af51f236e4932235fdada7d1643.jpg

They then had a run of games were their previous form would have expected a lot of points from.

3 more games in that run which will make them safe I would think.

I think they jumped the gun sacking Paddy V and their results against the bottom teams since are matching their results before that horrific run. Roy will keep them up but they would have been safe even if Lampard took over imo.

If you're not expecting to get more than 0 points in 11 games you're in big trouble.

Regardless of what's happened with villa and Palace, I think we can all agree to have a right good laugh at Chelsea. £450 million spent, averaging 1.25 PPG and on their third manager of the year. Fantastic.

Each of those managers being worse than the previous one is a special achievement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭d22ontour

Most of the top teams as far back as I can remember would get no more than 3 or 4 tricky games in a row seasonally, taking into account a normally low/mid table team over achieving. Put any team apart from the top two this year into that run of games and they would find it tough going.

That's about 30% of the season and you are saying that they would be expected to get 0 points. It's obviously nowhere near enough to get anything less than 8 or 9 points even if they are the toughest run of games you could have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,882 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Yeah, you don’t have a winning expectation in individual games, but when there’s 11 of them you have to grind out a couple more points here and there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭d22ontour

They grinded 5 points which was decent, top teams are expected to beat most of the bottom teams home and away every season.

Bottom teams hope to nick something from the top teams which they did and to beat the teams around them to survive. Both of those things happened for Palace but the no shots on target in 3 games was the killer. They looked the safest in the bottom half and had six of their relegation rivals to come. Was a panic button decision imo.

People are being harsh on Vieira. They were just at the end of a run of 28 tricky fixtures in fairness and then Hodgson came in for the remaining ten games all against San Marino.

But it does tell you how the players are the ones in total control these days. Don’t like a manager or get fed up with him and he’s toast. If you’re Pep you can just get rid of 3 per season and continually refresh it.

Is it wrong that I really want to see Everton go down this season?

I don't hate them as a club... I just think it's time they tasted some Championship football for a while.

They flirt with relegation so often, but always seem to pull it out of the fire at the end. They seem to think they're a big important club, simply because they've never been relegated from the EPL. But at the same time they never look like winning anything or really becoming a top tier club in the league.

Although, I think they've a more favourable run in than Forrest. So the jammy feckers will probably stay up once again... 🤣

Yes incredible turn around, 7 of the players yesterday were Dean Smith signings. Emery has only brought in Moreno at left back and Dhuran one for the future who hasn’t played much and recalled Traore from loan. No doubt he is an elite manager and his team have improved every player, we now play with a recognised system and against Newcastle were a joy to watch.

As an example Bringing in Danny Ings was counterproductive as him and Watkins weren’t successful playing together, Emery was decisive in letting him go and no coincidence the result is the improvement in Watkins.

Maybe but I feel the same.

So many fans get 1 year or none to enjoy the Premier League and this zombie club just keep shuffling along.

In a list of who I would like to stay up themselves and West Ham are bottom of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,755 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

The problem was Vieira made no attempt to nick a result. He was the anti-Lampard, all focused on defence with no attack. Which is kinda crazy when he has Olise,Eze,Zaha,Edouard all rapid players who could be lethal on a counter attack.

Even last year there was a few games where they held more possesion but did fùck all with it and lost 2/3 - nil.

Vieira could put points on the board by avoiding defeats so he never looked bad/weak, but scoring was always a problem, it just culminated in that wretched consecutive run.

Eze and Olise are back like wonderkids they were touted as under Hodgson now they arent shackled with excessive defensive duties and can actually create. Even Jordan Ayew has managed score under Hodgson.

Even us Everton fans are not really bothered anymore. The club is a mess and has been for years. Relegation will be a financial disaster but would hopefully bring about change at the club.

Southampton are gone and forest have tough games so it's between everton Leicester and Leeds for the last spot.

The best moment of that goal for me was when the ball was bobbling around with tackles going in from both sides and then Odegaard had the coolness to just nick it away from a West Ham player by just doing a little first time backheel to Saka in space and Arsenal were able to then retain possession and start the build up.

2 nil Arsenal after 9 mins

    West Ham are shockingly bad

Very much doubt West Ham can do anything even close to what Liverpool managed in this situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,876 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Arsenal continuing their tactic of players faking an injury after the opposition attacks, like last Sunday. Designed to kill momentum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

Emery would be a decent choice to replace Howe at Newcastle, Lampard at Chelsea, or maybe even Klopp at Liverpool.

Arsenal have a good chance to close that goal difference.
