I am due to fly to Malaga from Knock on Sat 25th which is during a Spanish cabin crew strike, as the flight will be originating from Malaga that morning with a spanish crew I am beginning to get worried that we will be caught up in this. What normally happens if the worst comes to the worst and the flight is cancelled ?

I can only assume that if there is no alternative flight, you will get your money refunded and you would book a different flight. Myself and a bunch of friends are due to go to France for a week in mid-July. I was the last to book. The others had all gone with Ryanair as it was a tenner cheaper than Aer Lingus. TEN EURO! I wanted to go with Aer Lingus because I fly with them whenever possible as they are more reliable and just much better to travel with but the other half insisted that I book the same flight as our friends to stay together. The shoe may be on the other foot soon if things escalate.

As far as I'm aware, if the airline gives you 14 days notice you are entitled to a refund only. So you will get your flight money back.

Even better, if they haven't given you 14 days notice, which it doesn't seem they have, you're entitled to a refund and compensation (to cover missed hotel, booking other flights) etc up to a maximum of 600 euro.

    Google EU regulation 261/2004.

Thats good to know thank you, as I didnt take out holiday insurance in time and too late now to cover for potential strike action. Jesus it would be a disaster if it did get cancelled but I think I would drive to Spain if it came to it at this stage 😀

No alternative from knock to Ryanair but the convenience is unreal compared to Dublin Airport, and usually pays off but I do hear where your comming from and I would guess the flight times might even have been better in your case if you all went with Aer Lingus.

    Hello

I too am flying from Dublin to malaga ryanair style on the 25th of June. 7.30 am flight should a strike be on in Spain on the 25th and on my return on the 3rd of July. If I get out there will ryan air pay my hotel bill if strikes are still ongoing on my return date.

So if an Irish based crew is used to fly from Dublin to Spain on the 26th will Ryanair do this or just cancel the flights.

They said they would operate where they can, so a Dublin based crew should still be flying

Due to fly to Portugal Faro this Friday evening. Will Ryanair give notice in this situation or will they make everyone turn up and just let you know at the gate.

Couldn't risk it as a family member is starting some work there so changed to the 23rd cost €75 just for peace of mind.

Anyone any update on this seems to of been dropped by the media. Maybe they will have sufficient crew for most flights.

I'm thinking this, I mean they would get absolutely hammered with customers looking for compensation if they didn't and Michael O Leary and co are not thick.

    Hi,

I am due to fly next Tuesday Cork-Malaga @ 17:20. How do I check to see where my flight (plane) starts its journey that morning, to see where the crew would be based out of?

    Cheers

Doing a bit of digging, and after the flight arrives in Malaga it picks up and flies back to Cork later that night. So, if Ryanair do not do overnights with staff, I am hoping that it is Irish based crew on the out & back - fingers crossed.

Just a heads-up for the last strike we change the flight dates for a family member to be on the safe side. Turns out the flights on the strike dates all left Dublin on time on the day and the day before. I take it was because Ryanair used Irish crews thus no impact.

I take it Ryanair have factored this in so would work the same way for next batch of strike dates

Btw cost €75 to change the flight date for the family member

Just to update my own near miss, our flight was on Sat 25th Knock to Malaga @9am , the flight was due to arrive from Malaga then turn around in Knock.

We arrived about 2 hours before and checked in the big bag, was told at the check in desk that the flight was delayed until at least 12:45.

We went in and I was looking at Malage Departures and sure enough no flight had left for Knock, then all of a sudden we were boarding on time and took off at 9.

What happened was a flight from the UK landed and it was sent to Malaga to pick up the stranded passengers there with us on board, there was a flight to the UK which was delayed until late afternoon which was supposed to be gone around 9. So the poor folk heading to the UK had a 7 hour delay the outbound from Malaga was effected but we were sound.

On an unrelated note: the bloody plane type had changed since we booked so boarding was a bit of a shitshow with poeple having seats that didnt exist and out problem was I couldnt check in my child due to us now being in emergency exit seats. Same on way back but no strike that day.
