Whatsapp backup

Hi, I lost an iphone at the weekend, stupidly!, my whatsapp would have been backed up periodically, I thought to icloud.

I've switched to android, set up whatsapp again thinking it would pull in the data linked to my number but it hasn't. Any idea how to rectify this?

Doesn't work that way. iPhone is backed up to and restored from iCloud only, Android is backed up to and restores from Google only. There is no crossover.

Hypothetically, if you had an unused iPhone to hand, you could install Whatsapp on it, restore from iCloud, then use the method above. However, since you've registered a new device to your account, I'm not sure if Whatsapp on the iPhone will restore the backup from iCloud. Only way to know for sure is to try it

As suggested maybe call to a "Chinese" phone shop and explain the situation. They may be able to "borrow" an iPhone and recover from the cloud. Typically if they can't do it no one can
