Taxi app that works for all

Uber has been banned in Ireland because it is so disruptive to the taxi industry and also some say the industry here has higher standards than Uber can provide. (I don't agree with that though).

But why can't we have an app that works for all? A two-tiered app that puts out a call for registered taxi drivers for 3-5 minutes and if none are found, the app moves to any lift sharing driver who has registered themselves with the app? It's a slight feature change that would surely benefit everyone. You could even go one step further and switch off the non-taxi driver option if you'd rather sit and wait for a "real" taxi driver.

Uber drivers would simply fall into the market then at peak hours when you have people scouring every city centre corner for a lift home. It's not that difficult to have some sort of market demand graph to show peak times over past 30 days, plus expected peak times in areas with special events on like concerts or rugby matches.

In this day in age there should be no reason why people are left standing in the cold waiting for a ride home.

Uber here works as a normal taxi service, not the model they use elsewhere. Our laws do not allow for the traditional Uber model. Pre-pandemic I think it was Free Now or whatever they were called then that added a lift share facility. Never used it. Bolt is my go to taxi app these days.

Yes, the point is that it doesn't work in sense that we are left waiting for hours to find taxis into the night or at peak hours. If it were allowed to run like it does in the likes of London, or my version of that which I detailed above, this problem wouldn't happen.

That's a legal issue though, not a travel one.
