Yes. The cultural and social dynamics were the same. Terror and fear among the middle class and the respectable who were perfectly willing to remove the civil rights of the people who went for the 'my body, my choice' option. There probably is a valid argument about the power and use of one-sided mass media manipulation to push a particular narrative on a population while simultaneously working to limit or discredit any counter arguments or individuals/groups who hold them, and how that applied to the Covid messaging, but er...
