Why aren't laws more watertight

    It makes them pointless.

    Examples:

Lets ban cigarettes being viewable in shops. But we can still display vapes right beside the forbidden cupboard.

Lets put alcohol in its gated section. But put the "zero" options right outside with the same fricking logo lest we forget what Heineken looks like.

The companies selling this stuff aren't geniuses or anything. A 10 year old could find ways to workaround these laws.

Whole thing seems very half-assed if they want the country to get healthier and denormalise unhealthy habits.

To be fair, an awful lot of laws are pointless.

Rob a shop, go to court, chances are you get a suspended sentence.

Beat, rape your kids, suspended sentence.

with laws, there is always the interpretation of these laws.

Well, you see, vapes aren't cigarettes, and alcohol free drinks are not alcoholic. So those restrictive laws don't apply to them.

    It is pretty simple really.

Theres some mindset in Government/Civil service/EU now a days that everything has to be regulated and layered in bureaucracy and red tape no matter how small the matter or issue

I think if you wanted a real conversation on this you'd have opened it in the Legal Discussion forum, so...

...It's the government fault and immigrants, in association with reverse vampires, etc. etc.

If the laws were watertight then the politicians would have no choice but to tackle the serious issues, as it is they can pass poorly worded laws and then in a few years pass more laws to correct the totally foreseen unforeseen consequences.

AND most importantly a lot of our " Learned friends " would be redundant .🤑
