Find My only shows child phone when it’s unlocked

I’ve two kids with iPhones, sharing location with me on the Family set-up.

one phone is located on my Find My app in an instant, every time, but the other says ‘location not found’ until the phone is unlocked, and then it shows up on my Find My straight away.

any ideas why this might be? The location-sharing settings seem to be the same for both phones.

    thanks

Apple has a built in app - Find My - that can be used to track devices. Might need to be in the one family.

Yep - it’s Find My, with the 2 devices for the kids set up with kids apple ID’s, so they go under my parent a/c.
