Actually I was slightly mistaken, the commercial rate of tax is applied on unladen weight and not GVWR. Technically that car would be approx 3.2t unladen so he could have it downplated for private use to 3.5t GVWR and be able to both a) drive on car licence and b) be on the 420 rate, with approx 300kg payload so enough for a full tank of fuel and one American sized driver

It's outrageous that a little hatchback pays €385 and that monstrosity pays €420. Is it even in use as a commercial, as you yourself calculate there would be shag all (legal) payload left.

First one is possibly the all time worst ever pavement blocker I've seen. It's a cul-de-sac containing a school, but with pedestrian access at the end, so the car brain presumably assumed that if she can't get through, no one can get through.
