Installing a stove instead of a gas fire..

Hi folks..

As the title says, I'm putting a 5kw stove in instead of a gas fire..it's a 5kw insert stove and I'm wondering if I really have to change the hearth?..

It's a single piece granite hearth, and the shop suggested I put in a jointed one instead. Reading around online I got the impression it may not be needed, but the installer (who works with the shop) said it could crack.

We put one in a few years ago, not an insert stove, I preferred mine further out, think there is more heat of it. Fireplace had to be knocked back a bit to accommodate flue, we didnt touch the granite part of the fireplace. We used some stove cement around the flue when it gets attached to back of stove.

Yeah, no, i realise that about the flue etc..my question is really about the base/hearth..

Is there really a need for a jointed base..

Your hearth will most likely crack. Your choice if you want to take the chance or not. Shop and installer are airing on the side of caution.

Yeah, I've been reconsidering actually alright..would the bit around the fire, the bit in black in this pic need to be replaced too, or would just the base do?..

Yes that would have to be black granite or cast iron. Cream marble only suitable for gas or electric.
