Help with Tiling

    Hoping for some advice as I have just started a tiling project for a bathroom floor (4sq M)

    I have all the units out and have started taking up the tiles. As they are coming up there are some lumps of the backer board coming up with the tiles. The floor beneath is wood (not sure of exact name but it's the same as what is under the carpet on the landing.

    At the moment I am taking the tiles off with a crowbar and hammer and it's slow going. Would I be better off using a chisel on a hammer drill as it looks like I will need to put in new backer boards as it is (I'm not sure how I can get the old adhesive off the backer board without destroying them)

    All advice greatly appreciated!

    There's probably no one who has ever completed a job like this without removing the backing.

    You could be halfway into the new tiles, you realise its not going to be right...!


    Is it chipboard, plywood, Mdf ; overlaid on top of original flooring, or the original flooring you are pulling up?

    Yeah, I realised the ridiculousness of trying to save the backer board shortly after writing this! I ripped up all of the tile and cement board yesterday and after taking out all of the screws that had been holding that down I am now left with the bare underboards which I believe are chipboard.


    Going to get some new cement boards to lay down before tiling. The ones that cam up had screws every 15cm is that necessary for installation? It nearly took me as long to get all the screws out as it did to take the tiles up!
