Credit card application timeframe

This could be a 'how long is a piece of string question, but I'll ask anyway.

What lender provides the quickest credit card? I need one for car rental abroad fairly soon. I've gone through PTSB who have acted at a snails pace, it's taken 2 weeks for them to get it to underwriter stage and that's as a current customer.

Anyone any recent experience from making application to received in post? I imagine applying with another bank as a non customer won't exactly be quick?

Maybe Avant Money? I wouldn't worry too much if you don't get one on time. Many places accept a deposit if a debit card is used. Never had a problem.

applied for PTSB credit card myself 3 weeks ago and still nothing, getting frustrated waiting so applied for an an post one tonight online but got a rejection email a few mins later, not sure how it was rejected as the only information they ask for online is very basic stuff, expected to get an email were i can proceed then with uploading documents etc. Its some automated process anyway, might request a manual check as cant see why i would be rejected with the basic info supplied
