    Its possibly free.

you can download the iso or update from Microsoft's site and use the windows 7 key you already have.

The key may be on a sticker or use software like “jellybean” to display it on screen.

OEM licences are non-transferable and live/die with the motherboard they were supplied with. AFAIK Upgrades of OEM licenses are also non-transferable.

Retail licences and upgrades of them are transferable.

Transferable Volume licences ? - many years later the case is ongoing

If you have the serial no of a computer from a major brand like HP , Dell , Lenovo you should be able to check the parts list on line to see which version of windows is shipped with or look at the licence sticker on the bottom. BTW buying a COA is not the same as buying a licence.

If you have a valid 7 licence and a disability you may be able entitled to an upgrade see https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-for-people-with-disabilities/1d522456-f2ab-456a-be3a-f7333d720b88

If you have older kit then you will have to decrapify windows and use a browser with scripts and ads blocked or it will keel over. ( at that stage throw RAM, SSD and/or Linux Mint at it )

Or use a 180 day trial version of windows server and slgmgr to extend once or twice. Server versions usually have a better GUI and less crud so some people tweak for desktop use.
