Replacing Smart Meter with D/N Meter

So yes it is possible however I called BG to do it and they want to charge me €200 and I said are you having a 🤬 laugh.

Just wondering if anyone did this move and they were forced to pay.

I was told a while back by whatever provider I had at the time that when you move to D/N first time it should be free but you will get charged for moving back to standard meter.

I had SSE at the time and thhey made me ring ESB i think. no charge

Moving to day night meter is definitely free, there is a charge to get it removed. Change is done by ESB Networks, just go through Bord Gais to arrange it. Staff is Bord Gais not great at times, I'd call them again.

It was free for me last year, smart meter removed, day night installed. Call ESB Networks and they will confirm if that is still the case and then you can go back to BG

Oh I have asked this many many times, like why in the F can they not add a D/N tariff to the smart meter, we all know they can do it.

The answer is because why would they when they can charge you more.

I did and they said they will get their Smart meter team to call me back which I doubt it will happen.

@ec_pc who were you with at the time of the change?

Will still pay the 200 if I must but they are clueless, I had to fight them over the phone, they were 100% you cannot change from smart to D/N blah blah

I moved from a smart meter to a D/N for free. You get one change for free, smart meter didn’t count because I didn’t request that change. Apparently they can only tell up to seven years if you’ve switched before fir data protection reasons.

After what seemed like about 10 hours on the phone finally got BG to replace the smart meter with d/n and waive the "fee"

Shame these companies are ran by utter idiots and they can't do the simple thing here and move you to the d/n tariff on the smart meter.

Had you requested the smart meter initially when they put it in?

If so you did well to get them to waive that fee and thinking of doing similar here as the extortianate standing charge for their rural EV plan is nuts

BG are 🤬 useless, apparently they arranged for an engineer to come out today to replace the meter and of course no one showed up.

Called up ESBN as well and they were like no orders here don't know what you're on about.

Man I wasted hours of my life on the phone for something that should take 5 mins.
