    Hi All,

My 10 year old wanted to fish on the beach the weekend gone for sea bass. Fish shop recommend a rod for him and to use a spinner instead of bait to keep his interest. Is this a good approach?

Thinking of buying a second rod for bait fishing. Is there a good website for equipment?

When tide coming in best time and does the time of day matter? Ie early morning v evening.?

    Thanks

It's quite early to expect to catch a bass with a lure. But it is a good approach.

There are plenty shops and websites. Where are you based?

Fishing off Piers and jetty's with small lures can be great fun for kids.

    Hey AR

More than happy to help if you need anything.

As said above - it is too cold still to be spinning for bass. Bait is the way to go and its fishing very well where you are. I have some gear here would suit him, very reasonably priced however you do need a good bit of it to get going.

He is only 10, so normal sized beach gear will be a bit big for him to handle but I have a few light cheap combo setup that will be fine for him.

You will need either a beach rest, or you can use something like a 2 inch waste pipe about 2-3ft long stuck into the ground to hold the rod, you dont hold bait rod and reels while bait fishing, they are too heavy. some weights and rigs, and then the obvious baits, Rag/lug etc.

The guy you bought the rod from was right in a way, keeping an interest is easier when you can walk around and spin different areas, where as using bait is static, and would get a little boring for a youngster, but at the moment its the only effective method.

There is some good videos to watch on my site below in the articles section on reading the beach which he should watch after he has been out a few times.

If you want to go for it my contact details are on the site, just gimme a call and we can sort him out.

Thanks for that info. At the moment he has decided he doesnt want live bait, so will see how it goes over the summer and if still into it we will upgrade his stuff. This could be a summer phase or less with him.

    Thanks
