Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

His cue action shouldn’t work, but in the end he hits the ball well. I think that’s what hold him back a bit, he gets a bit sloppy and misses balls

at least he's making a good crack of it, and he's not letting Neil walk all over him, thats daunting in itself playing Neil in his form.

Robertson is in bits. He’s missed some simple balls.

That Lyu fella stole frame on Bingham 6-3 down instead of 7-2.

Robertson fairly steam rolling his way through from being 1-3 down

Probably the biggest underachiever in the World Championships excluding Jimmy. On paper he should be steamrolling to a win this year. It must frustrate him at this stage one World Title in over a decade. No final since then either

I think I need to jump ship to Eurosport lads, can't stand seeing Shaun Murphy's smug face at every interval.

Privileged Tory faux Christian, he's certainly not one of mine 😉

That’s a bit much. By all accounts he’s a decent skin. He played in Celbridge for a long time and some of my mates got to know him well, never had a bad word to say about him. Thoroughly nice fella. Good craic on the gargle.

Really scrappy from Matthew.. hasn’t settled yet but he’s had a bit of bad luck in addition to some good stuff from Lesowski

Flying over tomorrow afternoon for two sessions Thursday (Williams v Page & Zhao v Maguire) and one Friday (Ronnie v Allen).

Cant wait, been a long three years with no Crucible visits. 🤗

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Good set of matches there. I've missed the Crucible myself. Hopefully next year, and may get to York before Christmas.

I really don’t get the dislike for him. He seems like a nice guy. And I know somebody who is friends with him and doesn’t have a bad word to say about him.

I went over to Sheffield for four sessions over the weekend, first time there and loved every minute of it

This is dire, dire stuff from Matthew Stevens.

Matthew just not playing well enough.

Certainly what’s gone down reflective of the 41 places between them in the rankings…

Lisowski hasn’t been great and as I type misses a simple blue by miles… quality hasn’t been great.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭waynescales1

    And he knocks in a 108 clearance…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Don't think Matthew Stevens was ever expecting to do much at the Crucible at this stage. It is an easy enough draw for Lisowski compared to someone like Jackson Page or Scott Donaldson. These guys like Ken or Fergal, or even Hendry with his pipe dream, are happy to make one last respectable hurrah on the Crucible stage.

Wish Eurosport would employ a new director… balls haven’t stopped moving on the table after a shot is played and they cutaway to a closeup on the other player sat in his seat eagerly watching for the outcome. We’d like to watch for the outcome too but we can’t see. Then these super wide angles for the break ? Why, you can’t see the table or balls, what benefit?

Plus the cameraman 'hedging his bets' regards which of the possible (usually 2) reds - if they're in close proximity - the player is going for (is it red to middle, or the one to baulk) , when it's fairly obvious to those watching which one he's taking on.. Or, if it's just the one red on, and cameraman aint sure which bag it's destined for 🤣

but the 'panning to the guy in the seat when the balls are still moving' is much worse,, We don't need to see John Higgins' mush when the positional aspect of the shot is not a given,,

been going on for years tho, and not likely to stop any time soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,508 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Fairly sure BBC is the host broadcaster so it's on them.

But agree its frequently terrible - a bug bear of mine is where they do a close-up of a ball going into a pocket when the only really relevant part of the shot is where the white is going to track afterwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Matthew Stevens giving a good account of himself today. It's a best of 7 for Lisowski.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 21,567 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

That’s actually BBC’s fault. They control the feed. I agree it’s incredibly annoying.

Vafaei not at the races at all, Trump not playing overly well himself but Vafaei looks lost.

    Trump all over Vafaei… taking a 3-0 lead with a 114 break…

Vafaei has had his chances but unable to convert. Looks nervy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,902 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Yeah Vafaei never seems to relax always on edge. And then is always chasing position invariably breaking down. Always comes across to me like a player who would be ‘great in practice’. Trump will win this match pulling up.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Cutting away from live action to show a replay, before the full shot outcome has been shown, should be a sackable offence for a TV director, or whoever is responsible, at the first time of asking.

Vafaei takes 3 in a row.

Great break by Ding to go 7-6 up.

Bit weird that Ronnie is doing punditry while still in the tournament.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,780 Mod ✭✭✭✭Say Your Number

Wilson nearly got a century, back to 7-7, could get a final frame decider here.

Fella with a Louth top in the front row, thought jerseys were banned.

    Edit: It's a Wales top.

Back to 8-8, century from Ding.

    Brilliant game.

    Such drama

Have to fancy Wilson after that

Yeah. Jayus just when I thought Ding finally showing steel under pressure. He implodes from nowhere on that pink.

What is Wilson’s nickname? They said he battled as usual, Mark Davis is the battler from Hastings😂, I have forgotten Wilson’s nickname, it’s not been mentioned for 5 minutes, was hoping Wilson would get chinned, 2 weeks of that man is 2 weeks too many

Disappointed to see Ding go out. I was hoping that he'd have a bit of a run in this tournament.

Same thoughts… likeable player to watch and person

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,063 ✭✭✭Genghis

You have to wonder whether Ding is a player that has peaked / fading with age like players used to, like Hendry or Davis. Or is it that he needs to find a way to develop and adapt to keep going in later years like Ronnie, Mark, etc did.

I personally think the problem is with his confidence at the later stages of a match. He always seems to be able to compete until the final few frames and then inevitably loses. So he clearly still has the skill on the table but just not able to close out matches.

I also think - in fairness to him - he has really invested in developing Chinese talent with his set up in Sheffield, and perhaps his personal focus is on growing that success / making a career of that in years post playing snooker.

Hard to know but I would love to see him back in the top 16 and winning again. Actually unsure where he will be after the WC, but he is 29th today.

I feel for him. He’s a superb player, at his peak one of the all time greats. 12 ranking titles including 3 UKs, plus a Masters is nothing to be sniffed at. But I don’t think he has the fight anymore, he seems fragile under pressure

Some were saying that Ding may be too comfortable now and just isn't that hungry anymore, maybe not putting in the work like he used to, he has plenty of money now, his own snooker club etc, could also be that he is just fading.

I think he actually has 14 ranking titles-3 Uk's with one Masters, he's been a great player no doubt and by a mile still the best so far to come from China and the other's have a lot to do to usurp him.
