Urgent passport appointment

Hi All, have any of you ever gone to an urgent passport renewal appointment? Basically what I need to know is, does your passport be handed to you there? My husband has an app because we are scheduled to fly to the states next Friday. All is good with his passport for travel but the cruise company need 6 months validity on the passport. He got an urgent appointment for Tuesday morning which will be perfect if he leaves the appointment woth his passport. Can anyone advise?

Hi. Yeah you can get the passport that day. A few years ago I was going on holiday and only realised my passport was out of date a few days before departure. Got the appointment at the passport office, and a few hours later got the passport.

What time is the appointment? If it's after lunch it may be next day.

My appointment was first thing in the morning, the office was actually closed when I arrived. I just hung around town for the day until the passport was ready. Can't remember how long exactly it took but got it some time in the afternoon

They made it very clear on the radio the other day that holiday or leisure travel will not be prioritised as urgent as it would mean prioritising one person’s leisure trip against another departing around same time. Urgent passports are allocated on basis of situations like funerals, illness etc. I wouldn’t raise hopes in this particular situation. Very many holidays outside of EU require passports to be valid 6 months ahead. It’s always good practise to set up an electronic reminder when passport is about 7 months to expiry & get it renewed then to cover all cases. Not helpful to OP, I know.

Hi, there is a difference between an urgent passport and an emergency passport. For the emergency passports, there has to be an actual emergency like a death etc. But for an urgent passport, they will allow you to for a fee book an appointment.
