Sending a gift to hotel guest in the US?

Anyone have experience of this? My friend is in the US for a trip to mark a roundy birthday. I was in the same city for my roundy birthday years ago and she arranged for a bottle of bubbles to be sent to my room.. I had hoped to return the gesture. But on looking it up online, its so ridiculously expensive. Minimum E100..i googled one bottle of wine that was going to cost me 89eur approx and you can buy it in TESCO for Eur10!! She's a wine buff so I'd die if I sent her some cheap stuff but I'm not prepared to spend E150 - E200 either.

I contacted the hotel and they sent a catalogue, all very expensive and limited on options. I looked up some companies in the city to order online but couldn't get past the address etc on the website, because international?? For example, one site was requesting city and state but the drop down wouldn't work.

I'm starting to think its not worth it and get a nice bottle of bubbles and chocs delivered to get home when she's back. Definitely far better value.

Very few normal retailers sites will let you order something (particularly something like alcohol) to a delivery address in a different country than the card holder address - its an obvious fraud sign.

Look beyond the city for specific gift firms basically. These would do that all the time. It won't be anywhere near the same experience as having hotel staff bring a chilled and open bottle to the door though - could be a faff getting the parcel taken in at reception and an expectation to tip whoever hands it over etc (it is the US).

Also, just curious but she had a brother resident in the US who may have done the order at the time.... Would this have made it an easier thing for her to arrange?

Vastly. Although if you were staying in a hotel with a less obscene room service list, was it just a room service delivery?

I suspect if you phone one of those gift delivery firms they may be able to process it on the phone. Anywhere midwest to west coast will still be office hours right now.
