Hi heading to New York just wondering if city passes are worth it. Plan on going to the top of the rock and Vanderbilt is it better to book directly as the pass reviews are mixed in that you still need to queue up? Any other recommendations appreciated.

    Thanks

Few years back I did Top of the rock with no pass. large queues to get in to get tickets, about 15 minutes. When you get your ticket it had a time on it when you would be expected to queue again to start getting into the history/induction area. Mine was for 50 minutes later, so just went down the street to a fast food, done lunch and came back 40 mins later, lot of others done the same. Thought TOTR was a good tour, no rush to get you down, stay as long as you want to, gift shop up there. Lift ride is cool.

I had done the Empire state years back so don't know what it's like now, it stays open later so a night time tour could be nice.

What time of year are you going?

City pass not worth it. The New York forum on TripAdvisor is full of great information on sightseeing, I found loads of places to go and things to see from reading on there.

We have done the city pass before. It may have changed as they tinker all the time with these products. I think it was good - has all the highlights of the world class museums, Empire State (day and night entry) and the cruise around Manhattan was interesting.
