Census form help

I'm filling out my form. I know it's meant to be tomorrow but not alot will change from tonight and I'll still be in the same place.

But I know when my rental place was built. I can maybe guess but really not sure I should be doing this. Is there any way of finding out when my rental house was built. I don't have my landlord's number as I'm renting through an agency. But not sure they will know either.

If you have a sledge hammer handy you could try knocking through a few internal walls and hopefully find a newspaper that was left in there by the builders.

If you have more money than sense you could get the folio details from land registry for €5, perhaps they will come in handy for something else down the line...

I wouldn't worry about it. It struck me as a bit of a stupid question for renters. Make a rough guess on the decade then pick a year in there.

You could look up the BER cert and it'll tell you. You just need to get the MPRN from your electricity bill.

Describe the building (or post a picture of a similar one) and people here should be able to give you a rough idea of when it'd've been built.

I found my address in 1901 census, so built before 1919 might be a good guess.

The core of my house (cottage) was built in or around 1800, here's a serious question.

The original part of my humble abode now only forms about a 1/3 of the property, it was first restored (new slate roof from thatch), walls rebuilt etc in 1976. I purchased in 2001 and over a few years modern restoration and extensions done in circa 2007/10 to include massive new roof.

I always face this difficult conundrum when renewing house insurance and generally put 1976 as this was the date previous owner substantially restored the original cottage. It would be near impossible to get insurance on a house built in 1800 or certainly horrendously expensive.

So do I put 1800 or 1976 in the census form 🤔 I'm sure others in the same boat , so to speak 😁

I don't know the answer to this either. There was a house with people living in it back in 1901 but I'm sure it was done up since then. Like I have double glazed windows which they probably didn't have back then. And I don't have a fireplace which I thought would be normal enough for an old house as fires was what they used to keep warm back then. So I don't know what year to put on mine.

My daughter wrote on the census form in red biro in three parts. Of course information is wrong can I tippex out what she wrote or do I have to get a new census form?
