5 amp lamp question

I have a floor lamp with a standard 13amp plug. I also have a 5a socket in my living room, which I've never used. Can I simply replace the 13a plug with a 5a plug and turn the lamp on and off from the light switch in the living room (I have a 2-gang switch, one side of which "does nothing" so presumably controls the 5a socket).

Would this be safe? Any expertise appreciated.
