What would you put in the census "Time Capsule" segment?

I was just looking at the upcoming census form and saw a Time Capsule segment for us to fill in. I haven't a clue what to write about, have gone blankety blank.

What will you write about, if you intend to fill it in? (Trying to get some ideas for my atrophied brain too)..

An explanation as to why virtually no member of my family is going to be where anyone doing genealogy would expect (work commitments, house renovations). Would have been very happy with similar on the 1901 census where people are scattered all over on one branch of my family.

There'll be a fair amount of mickeys being scrawled in that box, I imagine.

You could always link to your Boards account username so that future generations could really get to know your personality.

I have heard of a good one .. write a story, in parts, every five years. Your ancestors will have to wait with anticipation for the next census release, to find out more.

That will only work if they continue with the time capsule feature. And if the same person is filling it out. Nice idea, though.

There is a lot of stuff not on past forms that I would have liked to know about my ancestors looking at their forms. Some things we are thinking of (assuming we can write very small and neatly):

Key achievements in life (I.e. things we are proud of and would want to tell our great grandchildren. Awards, College details (name of college & courses)

Hobbies. Sports. Community involvement. Favourite book, movie, music, etc

    Relatives living overseas. Who, where.

It is actually a very small box so limited in what we can put in. But will write small and use bullet points etc.

Traditions mainly, also some of the old stories that have been passed down through the family such as the day they were evicted in 1850 and the three first name that goes from father to son.

There are lots id like to know about those who have gone before us but it's hard to find out now

I never got the time capsule segment in mine so I guess nothing. In fact overall I was very disappointed with this census form. There is barely anything in it at all.

It's a generic form so everyone has the same. It's on page 23, just a blank box.

... unless there's more than 6 people living together. then each additional person gets their own individual form, but there should still be one main one for the household

Is it just me that thinks it's just the most depressing thing! Whatever about filling in a form every few years adding that bit for future generations to read is a real reminder that nobody filling the form will be alive then and most likely not even their children, at best a baby in the family might just get to the century!

I get the concept but just find it miserable, a very sobering thought if you are the one doing the writing 😐️

I’ve been fortunate to have had a lovely life and travelled every continent and I’d like to document it for my future ancestors.

Personally I was going to write a list of current conspiracy theories to reassure the future generation that we were dumb as sh1t in 2022 and it's not new, and they're not alone.

I was going to leave it blank but now i think i will mention all the things that my father hadn't received after paying into this country before he died. For anyone else wondering, He was shivering in the cold in an old council house in his dying years at 80 and never without any central heating. The city council which are in profit and over 3k+ dividends in rent(From my family) left my father die and shiver in the cold whithout any central, or heating of any kind. No maintenance, They took our rent money but never gave any maintenance. My parents are in credit for over €4000 in rent credit with the city council.

EDIT: : Cork City Council by the way.

I get what your saying re the council but to say they left him to die and shiver in the cold, where were you in all this? That's what I'd be thinking if I read your census in 100 years time.

I grew up in a house of seven siblings(eight if you include me). I'm the third youngest of eight. My older sister is dead/my younger brother is dead. In my family i was always looked apon for stuff like that.(I think every family has one) It was because of me that my family got to get to know an idea about internet/computers and smartphones and anything else to do with tech.

Even now it's just me, my mother, four sisters and one brother. everytime is always me. I grew up without central and that stuff and i messaged many times to the city council over the years about it. But being me i always kept a record and i still have those messages to this day.

EDIT:I also tend on doing something about it, that's why i wrote here.
