Car parking notice Northern Ireland

Anyone have or know anyone who had a similar experience.

I know I will just pay up.

On 2nd Feb I was in Belfast at a hospital appointment with a parent at 4pm and was out by 5.

I parked nearby and saw no double yellow line or a no parking notice. I checked other cars to see had they paid parking tickets and they had none. I assumed I was okay. First mistake.

So of course there was a notice on my car after and I just thought I was a soft target with my southern reg. Mistake 2 was throwing fine in under the car seat and forgetting it.

Today i got a letter informing me officially of the fine.

Has anyone appealed these fines or just ignored/paid. I will pay as it's in my wife's name & the hassle from her every time a letter arrives won't be worth it. :)

But I find the letter laughable saying the charge may be recovered by the enforcement office(debt collection) or vehicle removed.

From viewing Google maps I can see a urban clearway sign 430-6am ,it's about 200 metres from where I parked so didn't see it. (my ticket has 438 pm on it)

Ignore it if you never intend to take that car up North again.

Interesting. The national vehicle file is covered by GDPR and kept separate. County councils in the republic can get details from it as can some Government Departments (Marine) so I’d be asking the relevant department if your details were released and looking to see the signed ministerial order.

    Interesting.

We share information on traffic offences and drivers, for fines and penalty points. You can go looking for all the orders you like, or you can pay the fine for your illegal parking and learn a lesson about where to park next time.

I have so many unpaid parking fines from the North. Never an ounce of trouble. And this is going back 20 years. The latest 6 months ago.

I wouldnt bother op. You learned your lesson and wont park in that spot again. So the ticket has served its purpose. No need to give them money too.

Lived in Belfast for 10 years and have had 2 separate parking fines, one I paid the other I did not. If it was an urban clearway sounds like the red coats got you, you should probably pay. If its from a private company that operate car parks do not even acknowledge the letter, they will keep sending them and claim that bailiffs will come. These are GB based companies and have no right to operate in that manner in NI, they are just generic letters they keep sending

Whatever about NI, I've driven thru England and Wales, and I've never gotten a single speeding ticket, parking ticket, or toll ticket to arrive at my door.

Even if I did get one... I'd ignore it

It's a kind of courtesy thing.

    When in Rome etc.

You are in NI obey their rules.

The fact that you can get away with it is irrelevant.

Just pay it and be done with it. In fairness the OP says he will anyway but this notion of trying to get out of stuff/get away with stuff really annoys me.

Taking chances (speeding, illegal/overlong parking, whatever) is one thing, but if you get caught just suck it up and pay the fine IMO.

If the op wants to pay it, that's fine.

It's just my experience, that I've never had any comeback from any fines I have gotten in my foreign travels.

I've been flashed by cameras in Spain, Poland, Germany, US, Canada the UK, lots of average speed cam zones in the UK, a few parking tickets.

But that's just my experience, even when driving rentals, I've never charged by the rental company (once I ended up in Austria while driving a rental in Germany, that wasn't supposed to leave the country)

Personally i would not pay unless it was registered letter and even then probably not pay...

I got speeding ticket from Spain €100 (hire car) they even sent me registered notice... i binned both...
