always best to wait until the day after to instigate a switch just to be safe, the one day without discount will only cost a few cents extra it’s not worth worrying about

Some people want to switch a day or two early for some reason

I think it is Flogas as it has 30 euro welcome credit and lowest rate.

From the flogas deal earlier in the year I got 2 free emerald park tickets. They expire on the 8th of this month. I won't be using them so if anyone has plans to book emerald park soon, PM me and i'll give you the code. AFAIK the booking needs to be made before the 8th, but the booking date can be much later.

Just a heads up, I tried to redeem a voucher there and it's saying it's expired or invalid so there might be some faffing around with customer service to be able to use these.

Ah what a pain, did you ring/email Flogas or Emerald Park?

Same, the code was working yesterday when I tried. Emailed their customer service though, and hopefully they just reactivate them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 974 ✭✭✭The Phantom Jipper

I got a response from the Emerald Park customer service there and they're saying to try redeeming again at some point after 12 noon tomorrow and it should be working.

Looks like the voucher needs to be redeemed before the 8th September but the visit can be after that date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 871 ✭✭✭ECookie13

Hopefully that is the case, all seems a bit peculiar. The response I got was much different and curt. Essentially was told "code is invalid and cannot be used for a booking.", so there seems to be different responses going out.

    I guess we will see!

OK so code was still not working so gave EP a call...to redeem them its not very clear.

On the EP homepage DONT go to the booking page, instead scroll all the way down to 'I already have a ticket' then put your code(s) in there and redeem.

Add any extras you need (you don't need to enter the 2 tickets you get through the Flogas offer), only of you need more as it doesnt differentiate between kids or adults, follow the prompts and you'll only pay for extras.

The lady on the phone said you must book for a date before the end of Septenber. We were going before then so it worked out ok. Try booking for later if you need to.

I'd the same yesterday, just tried now and code was accepted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,815 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

that’s the same way it informed me to use the voucher code on the email, I thought it was very clear

if anyone is adding people it’s best to add children at least 24 hours before to get a discount too and use the voucher for adults

Be glad when the Emerald Park stuff is finished on here, it's not really anything to do with switching electricity suppliers is it? Sorry if anyone upset.👍

Contract up,rang Energia for initial offer- got quoted silly numbers and zero credit, did the switch to Bord Gais- the game begins!🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 ollin

I was with Energia for the last 12 months and got a pathetic renewal offer. So I utilised the energypal website and it landed on the SSE Airtricity 30% discount with €125 credit smart plan so I processed the move last week. Energia rang within a day to offer me their Smart Data plan (which has better rates) and with €120 credit included. I politely told the lady on the phone that the renewal offer pissed me off so much that I'm not for changing. Sometimes my stubbornness just gets the better of me!!

I’m having trouble logging into energia account. Password reset isn’t working. I just can’t be bothered phoning them. Just started move to electric ireland.

Dont take it personally, just take the lowest rate.

Known in here it's a normal tactic for Energia to operate that way.

This year, I didn’t even bother ringing them. I just signed up with BG. But it’s been two days and I’m beginning to think they don’t love me anymore.🥺

I see Electric Ireland offering €75 credit on standard and D/N plans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭Windowsnut

I am with Bord Gais at the moment using the smart standard plan, I moved back to a smart standard plan from free time saturday.

    My current rates are:

Standing charge electric: 218.53 Electricity kwh: 25.65 cent

Standing charge gas: 131.68 Gas kwh: 7.93 cent

The rates above all include VAT.

After 2 years on the smart free time Saturday / Sunday I only roughly saved around 8 euro a month on the smart plan which didn't warrant spending every Saturday devoted to cooking, cleaning and laundry!

I don't understand why it isn't a mandatory requirement to just list the standing charge and kwh rate upfront on every plan - this "saving 36%" is just bullcrap!

    Can anyone beat the above?

So things have changed for me. Got an email this morning from Energia with "one last offer". Rang them up and took the Smart Data plan, the credit was lowered to €100 but they threw in a Google Nest Hub. I rang Sse Airtricity and they said they couldn't possibly match it so that's me done for another 12 months.

If you use more than 3,231 unit per year, then Energia Smart 24 Hour (Electricity only plan) would break even after that and be cheaper thereafter so check your usage for the last 12 months. (25.09 cent per unit, 236.62 SC - All is inclusive of VAT)

As for gas, Flogas is cheaper (Gas only plan). (7.87 cent per unit, 151.18 SC but they give 30 Euro welcome bonus - All is inclusive of VAT)

Anyone have recent monthly rates for the Watepower Variable Tracker?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭godzillaess

I just signed up with energia for electricity and just looking at my first couple of days usage/insights on their app, if I pick any given hours usage (showing cost and energy used), when I work it out (cost divided by number of units) , the cost /unit is way higher that my plan. Its states in the FAQ that they use your plan to determine these costs and they include your discounts. Anyone else notice this issue? Assume its just an issue with their app and my bill will have the correct costs?

    Thanks

I have an EV and charge at night using the low rates from Bord Gais, but out of contract since Friday. I thought I'd be going to the smart EV plans, but after uploading all my data from ESB to EnergyPal its recommending Electric Ireland SST 30% saver. Its nearly double the price to charge the car now, but its cheaper for all other times and the standard charge is €70 less, so overall I can see how its cheaper. I ran it by Google Gemini and ChatGPT which both agree and came to the same conclusion, so I'm going to move to EI.

@godzillaess Maybe they enter the discounts at invoicing times? I'd ring to make sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,803 ✭✭✭Gooser14

I find the same with energia insights data. The daily costs shown bear no resemblance to my billed amount or to my own Excel tracking spreadsheet.

The following is the response received from CRU:

"As advised in my previous email, when the meter is activated, it cannot go back to the previous setting. The meter will not automatically revert  to MCC01 or MCC02 if you cancel a switch during the cooling off period if your meter has been switched to MCC12 or MCC16."

One could argue that the use of the word "automatically" infers that it may be possible to request a manual reversion to MCC01 or MCC02. However, the wording of the first sentence would seem to rule that out.
