Customers seem to want certainty when it comes to household bills, especially given the volatility of the last 18 months in energy prices. Waterpower can be beneficial only if you analyse your usage in detail (and assuming you have the monthly record).

Using the figures I provided shows an average of 0.3057 per month over the last year, but this is not that useful by itself as it wont account for variations in monthly consumption.

You would need to work out how much each month would have cost you and sum that up. For example, The high Dec rate may correspond with the highest monthly consumption as you are at home for Christmas in the middle of winter. This would skew your yearly bill up.

I’ve read back the thread I’ve never used a smart tariff despite having a smart meter for a good few years. Can they now force me on to smart tariffs?

My last plan was Flogas DG2 24hr Res Green Future 40 Renewal 12mo

Some providers ie Flogas will force you into it once your contract ends, just bear this in mind if you switch suppliers.

No. You cannot be forced onto a smart tariff. However, it just like Hotel California, once you sign up for one, you can never leave.

I would suspect you are on a smart tariff but just don't realise. Top right hand corner on your most recent electricity bill, what is the MCC code? MCC01? MCC02? or MCC12?

No, it's the other way round. The unit price that ESBN charge them on say 1 September is what they base their charges for the month of August bill on.

Nope. Not for me. The link was still working on the day I signed up (through bonkers) and sent the email to correct this both on 20/07/2023. It took them the guts of a week to process this and by that time the link had expired. I pleaded that I had signed up when the link was still active (I have proof of this), but they didn't want to know

Very poor customer service from Flogas

I presume the unit price that ESBN charges to utility companies is in the public domain?

Anyway, it doesn't matter, waterpower no longer accepts new customers. That's a pity. You'd think they would have geared up for the expected influx of new customers in the oligopoly situation we find us in at the moment

But I WAS forced onto one by Flogas, they would not let me sign up to any of the non smart plans once my contract ended so some suppliers do do this. You are either forced to move provider and hope they will allow you sign up with a non smart tariff or go on a smart tariff with your existing provider.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,120 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Then you weren't really forced onto a smart plan, were you? You could have moved provider.

Take it up with the CRU then.

You cannot be forced onto a smart tariff. FloGas are accepting people with non-activated smart meters onto their standard plans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 428 ✭✭loup

Complaint already sent in to the CRU. I understood I didnt have to move to one so I'll keep you updated with response from CRU.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 428 ✭✭loup

I was forced on to one with Flogas which is what I said, SOME providers will do this once contract is up. Flogas also activated meter without my consent and said it was ESBN that activated it which I know is incorrect, as I said CRU complaint gone in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,120 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Thanks for the update. If what you say is true and you didn't even get a chance to change provider and Flogas activated your smart meter without your consent, then they have a case to answer for. Not sure of the outcome though and your smart meter can not be in-activated again afaik

The bad news stories on Flogas are pilng up quickly today...

How do you send a complaint and what information do they need?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 428 ✭✭loup

OK so you need to firstly make a complaint with your provider, they usually have a specific email address to send it to. They will then send you a complaint reference number, you will need this to complain to the CRU. Once you have tried to resolve the complaint with your provider, your next step is complain to the CRU. You can send them emails etc. where you have conversed back and forth with the provider. They then send you a reference number, takes about 5 days for them to get in touch. Complain to the CRU | CRU.ie

Im 7 days in to the switch from Energia EV plan to Flogas BWG and haven't received my welcome pack yet. For those who did can you remember how long it took to arrive after sign up? Im guessing they're busy but if they cancel my order I need to move quick to avoid being on Energias full non discounted rates so want to be ready for that if it happens.

I got a direct debit letter after a week or so. Then nothing by day 12 so I rang them. Got sorted and only got Welcome Email yesterday, day 17 or 18.

The meter readings you submitted is the start reading for flogas, (and also the end one from Energia)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭bren2001

3 weeks for the full welcome email and confirmation of my plan.

Bord Gais final bill for gas was generated 7 days after applying to FloGas. Bord Gais final bill for electricity was generated 12 days after applying to Flogas. Direct debit mandate from FloGas was received via the post after about 10 days.

A few people have been rejected here. You should look at the timeline as to when they applied and when they posted about being rejected. If you have a standard meter or a non-activated smart meter, there shouldn't be anything to worry about and you just need patience.

Expect at least 14 days. You should get a direct debit notice in post and email telling you how to set up the online account. Just checked my emails there, a few months ago my BWG took 22 days between sign up email and welcome email, but everything was fine with the rates etc.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Thanks lads, you're all a brilliant help on here. I'll hold my horses for another week and fingers crossed it comes through.

Since when are they not accepting new customers?

I received info on Tuesday on how to sign up. Has there been a change since then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,355 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I'm with Flogas since April, on their bill my meter status is MCC 01(24 HR) which I'm happy with. At what stage during your contract did your meter status change? You have me worried now🫣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,697 ✭✭✭TheRona

Yes, Tuesday is the last day they were accepting new customers.

Thank you most sincerely for contacting us regarding your electricity supply.

As from August 22nd 2023, we regret that we are unable to switch any new customers to our electricity supply here at Waterpower, due to the sheer volume of enquiries. Please check back with us around September 15th and we will have an update for your then.

We are genuinely sorry for any inconvenience caused at this time.

Got offered 38 cent fixed with Yuna they rang and said was fixed rate at that with no peak times at all I told them I was on a smart meter activated and said didn't matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭bren2001

    One report of it.

You can't be forced onto a smart tariff. Unless people start streaming in saying it's happened. Unlikely its anything and something particular to that user.

What are the rates with Flogas BWG offer?

    24hr rate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 133 ✭✭JoeCat

Does any one have the Flogas BWG offer for electricity? I had saved the link and it doesn't work anymore, now that I was about to change to Flgoas.
