    With the EU banning RT.

Is it still on the Irish EPG?

It was removed last year for Brexit reasons. I believe Eir has removed it this week though.

It's still broadcasting loud and clear on Astra 28.2E FTA. Seems to still be on the Sky EPG too.

Eir Tv Removed the RT News Channel and Documentary channel on Monday 28th February.

It’s gone from the Irish EPG since 14th December 2020. Sky removed any channels that opted not to take an EU license after Brexit. Still on the U.K. EPG.

RT will be removed from the Astra satellite service right across Europe very imminently. SES are based in Luxembourg which is an EU member state. The Guardian in the UK has reported that the live uplinks for the channel will be abruptly cut off once they get official regulatory clearance to remove it.

Once it's removed from Sky & Freesat; the slot that's vacated by RT will not be allowed to be sold to them as the sanctions will kick in for the Russian Government.

The slot allocation has to lapse meaning RT cannot get any revenue from selling it off to other satellite TV operators in Europe.

The satellite TV feed for RT is also relayed on Freeview transmitters in the UK. That means once it goes off Satellite at that point. The same thing will happen for Freeview users in the UK.

    You’re not far wrong!

The RT feed on Sky has now been replaced with simulcast of RT America. News on the hour, and a selection of pro Russian/anti Ukrainian documentaries on the half hour.

RT Espanol / Fance still there in Spanish / French on 19.2E V 22000

English language versions are RT America on 19E and with a 2 second lag 28E.

https://en.kingofsat.net/channelhistory.php?ch=3489 - for channel changes if they get pulled.

RT scroll bar saying EU has banned them, Sputnik , and will be on line on odysee

All news stations have an agenda. ITN produce different flavours of news for ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5. BBC World Service sanitises UK politics. But in this case RT is telling a different story to everyone else. Press TV (Iran) going hard on the "It's all the fault of the USA meddling in global politics" and once that's said falling back to the same story as everyone else.

    Ukraina 24 13E 11219 H 299990 3/5 8PSK - in Ukrainian though

Used to watch RT for their documentaries. Different perspective. When the war started was watching it, the original programming was replaced by American sounding presenters. It was such propaganda that I had to turn off. It annoyed me so much felt like ripping the TV out of the wall. No harm it’s gone.

better for my blood pressure too!

Seems to be gone from HOTBIRD too

Interestingly Hotbird is still broadcasting RT Docs - Just checked - But all the different languages off 19.2 and 13 are gone -

If Russia Today was independent and wasn’t financed by the Russian government I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

I know there’s two sides to every story but Russia Today never criticises the Russian Government and is always quick to pounce on other countries screwups.

but you know.. no matter how distasteful we may find their output should they not be allowed to broadcast??? - freedom of speech and all that

i mean its like something the Ruskies themselves would do😐️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,548 ✭✭✭KildareP

Why should someone or something be allowed continue operating on "freedom of speech" grounds when that same someone or something is actively denying many others their freedoms?

Like someone in jail for a crime complaining they are being held captive against their will.

RT is off the air as part of a massive list of sanctions being levied against all sorts of Russian companies, organisations and people.

Most of it is. But you do have some news reports in amongst it. Just like any other news outlet around the world.

Some articles appearing on RTE news website, were also on the RT website. So its not all bad, as why would RTE also post the same articles.

The article in question was Putin having his honoury taekwando black belt taken off him.

No discussion of the politics of this. I’m happy for discussion to continue as long as it keeps to the broadcasting angle but there are millions of other places to discuss the broader picture, this isn’t it.

Additionally there is no discussion of breach of copyright or posting links to illegal sources.

Just hoping back here for a bit! Is this the first time we have observed the complete cessation of a global news chain? Im leaving politics out of it, i know where i am. But the nerd in me is curious about this.

Press TV (Iran) got chucked out of UK , but like Rossiya 24 and Ukraina 24 is still on air on on Hotbird 13E

Rossiya 24 has been showing the same images on loop beside a press briefing from Moscow so you aren't missing much.

Feeds for satellites broadcasting to the UK satellite are mostly from the EU so more of a single even rather than lots of little ones.

this seems to be just a global list of fta channels, i cant see why it should be blocked on the site

RT is sanctioned and as such I don’t think we can allow any link to it even if the source was previously legal.
