Car taken by company without certificate

    Hello,

Our car was NCT failed and we decided to sell it to a scrapper.

We did a quote on https://www.cartakeback.ie and they replied with a quote by email that we accepted. On their website, there is plenty of details about the fact that there is paperwork that will be done at collection time and that a certificate of destruction or transfer of ownership will be done.

The guy came to collect the car today, towed the car and told my wife that he was not going to do any paperwork, that we'll get the money by bank transfer and that all was fine.

We emailed the company back saying that we wanted a certificate of destruction done and they replied that we did not deal with them but with Coparts (which is the company owning CarTakeBack) so that is a different process and the email is the only paperwork they do.

I am not sure what we can do now, we are slightly worried that the car will be repaired and put back on the road again without the ownership transferred.

    Any advice?

Do you still have the registration documents? Get the name of the company and send it to Dept of Transport and transfer it into their name.

We still have all the documents. Thanks for the advice, that is what we are going to do.

At least that will give us a proof that we tried to do everything by the book, in case anything happens.

When my car was destroyed a few years ago, I got there Certificate of Destruction by email a few days later, when the car was actually EoLd. Perhaps the same will happen in your case?
