If those are your priorities you are looking at a big German saloon from the premium manufacturers but you are going to be looking way way back in years. So you might find that age and mileage of car now becomes a big factor for you. You will be looking at 12 year olds at least in this class of car. Too old for you?

Also, speed and comfort are subjective. Some would consider a 1.6 diesel golf or focus fast and comfortable depending on what you have driven before, others wouldn't. Some would think a 520d fast others wouldnt settle for less than a 530d. Most cars are reasonably comfortable to be fair.

Tell us examples of some cars you think you'd like similar to.

My car at moment is a 2011 2.0 vauxhall insignia , before that was a Volkswagen Golf 2.0TDi So looking around the same engine or bigger.

Yeah I know it would be a good few years old i was thinking of going for finance if Its worth it as I won't be changing for a good few years.

The obvious cars would be BMWs & Audi but open to other options if there is any, Iv never owned a BMW or Audi so would be nice for a change.

    Thanks for any advice.

Seat Leon III (same as golf VII underneath) 1.6tdi

THey are quite cheap second hand

Check out carsireland etc and you should get a 2013/2014 for 8 - 9k.

A volvo or a SAAB maybe?

    Here is a nice 2014 Volvo S60,

or you could go back a year and potentially get yourself a modern classic,

    Both lovely cars.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Why not buy another Insignia. They are cheap to buy and you know what you are getting. Get a 2014 for 8k

I think if im going to be keeping it for a good few years im better off spending more on a BMW or Audi

I was looking at a Seat Leon 1.4 FR but I need a more space

The problem is that BMWs and Audis can be expensive cars to maintain as they get older and on a budget of 8k your already looking at one that is probably 9 to 10 years old. Do you have money put aside for unexpected maintenance because if you don't then my advice is look at something other than a premium brand. You won't run one on a shoe string budget.

The retired metal work school teachers car seems to be the vote here.

    Honda Accord

See the more I think about it the more I want a nice high end car for once if I do go for one I would probably go finance depending on the price as I will be keeping it for a good few years.

Well why don't you figure out exactly what amount you are prepared to spend (include the trade-in value of whatever you have now) then change the thread title to 'What car to get for XX k' then? 🤷‍♂️

because you are not buying a nice high end car for 8k. Using any reasonable definition of 'a nice high end car'

Hi Laura, just to put it into perspective for you I own a 2014 Audi A6 S Line automatic with low mileage at 120k kms, nice car, but looking at donedeal they are asking anything from 17k private to 20k at main dealers. Higher mileage ones still looking 15 to 17k.

That's what you're up against. For half that budget I doubt you are even getting a middle of the road 10 year old with high miles. If that's ok with you then go for it. I did that for years myself and it worked out fine. But the 10 year old high end bmws and audis back then were more like 4 or 5 grand.

Be a fine thing to buy a 5 series bmw than a troublesome thing like that. Have €1k in Your back pocket the day the engine management light comes on

After seeing repair bills from two people who own them I wouldn’t touch one of them. Maybe back in the day when they were new and warranty but an ageing merc is like a ageing woman.

I do know that the dialogistic equipment for them is in the 5k range while in the hundreds for most other cars.

So you want someone to spend another 5k on a 8k merc. What’s kind of mushrooms are you eating today 😂

Why would I buy diagnostic equipment for the car the garage use that?

I'll second this. Honda make super stuff. 10 year old Accords would be in your range.

Post an update when you purchase. Be good to see what is a good fit. I may be doing the same soon.
