The ban is in primary legislation, which is the most difficult to change, it is a shame, there are not many places in the world where IPSC is banned, indeed they have just become a full member of GAISF https://www.ipsc.org/ipsc-approved-as-a-full-member-of-gaisf/

Said it before. Yes, it could be got going here again in either of two formats;Either under the "German-style" As the German state also prohibits "combat training" with firearms[since 1945]. But have an annual growing IPSC shooting sports segment nationwide.

Or under an "Irish version" that does not have a dynamic element of "moving with a loaded firearm"[Same as Germany] and a clear definition of what sort of scenarios,"barricades" etc are allowed, to take the "combat training"🙄🙄 element away possibly on the line of the Finnish brutality matches...

HOWEVER, it does require two or three things;

A willingness of people who represent IPSC in the Republic,or others to sit down and talk with AGS/DOJ and hammer out exactly "what AGS/DOJ and the legislation define "combat training" to be exactly? And then to agree on what this sport might have in shooting scenarios that doesn't violate this? IE I doubt we would need SWAT/SF drills to be considered for matches, or anything that a normal SWAT or SF team does as training. Nor do SWAT/SF train to beat a clock in clearing a house,or have the advantage of their hostile targets obligingly staying put in the same place while they come into decide their best shot angles and round count.Three times!!

2]People wanting to participate, and AGS/DOJ willing to view a match being shot under Irish rules. [3] Not take the urine out of it by showing off to the PTB when they come to view a demo.

Nr 1 being the biggest problem.

That would be seriously fun. Restricted to 3 shells here though and AGS/DOJ would be slow to respond to any changes.

You can get restricted shotguns with a higher capacity than 3.

Restricted shotguns, with mag capacity's larger than 3 are used for target slug shooting in ireland.

shotgun. Ie - is the website for the Target shotgun association of Ireland.

looking at their website they seem to have a similar type competition. It would be interesting to have a go at this or try it.

Basically stationary target shooting with shotgun slugs...Nothing in comparison to IPSC.

Realistically it is never going to happen in Ireland. If they had their way they would ban guns altogether. Everything that is there is just on grandfather rules.

Strange that...As we in the Republic have bucked the EU trend on gun laws over the last 20 years. Where everywhere else restricted or banned we regained and kept our stuff to a certain point.It wont happen if we keep saying it won't happen.

Forget about IPSC,the very few people involved prefer to go and play up in NI, and quite frankly have done IMHO SFA to get the sport going in any shape or form again in the Republic for the last 20 years and are going the way of the dinosaurs.

Start with a clean sheet, and create an IPSC like sport that is tailored to the Republics laws and hammer out what is a definition of "combat shooting/training" with the PTB so both sides know where they stand on definitions and what's allowed or not, and design scenarios around that law and definitions. Would take some time and effort,and of course the 3% rule will be in immediate effect.

Not a hope, its Practical shooting demo that in some ways caused the demise of CF Pistols.

Just reach out to a Club in NI and get your paperwork and correct shotgun with licence etc and travel up there.

Wouldnt waste any time trying to turn back the wheels of time here when its a bit of paperwork, a few phone calls and a car trip.
